Ao trabalhar a Criminologia Crítica e seus objetos de Estudos, observa-se que a periferia se centraliza no cerne do controle social. A seletividade/genocida estatal sobre os bairros periféricos é uma das grandes problemáticas a serem enfrentadas nas trincheiras da luta contra o punitivismo. Movimentos populares, organizações e coletivos como as “Mães da Maré e de Manguinhos” e tantos outros são importantes espaços de luta e vivência.
