The German Left and the Weimar Republic illuminates the history of the political left by presenting a wide range of documents on various aspects of socialist and communist activity in Germany. Separate chapters deal with the policy of Social Democracy in and out of government, the attempts of the Communist Party to overthrow the Weimar Republic, and then later to oppose it. Later chapters move away from the political scene to treat the attitudes of the parties to key social issues, in particular questions of gender and sexuality. The book concludes with a presentation of documents on various groups of socialist and communist dissidents. Many of the documents are made accessible for the first time, and each chapter begins with an original introduction indicating the current state of research.

The Dolomites and their legends

The Dolomites, a range of mountains in the Southern Alps, are widely celebrated for their bizarre rock formations, light colour hues, and pristine nature. It is no coincidence that UNESCO declared the Pale Mountains a World Heritage Site and that, every single year, they attract tourists and nature enthusiasts from all around the globe. This enchanting mountain landscape, which is oftentimes cool and forbidding, has left an indelible mark on its inhabitants. Their veritable treasure trove of myths, legends and mystery stories is an integral part of the rich cultural heritage of the Dolomites: the older generation has always passed down this heritage to a wide-eyed audience comprised of both the young and the young-at-heart. This compilation by Karl Felix Wolff (1879-1966), probably the most prominent regional writer-explorer of legends, contains well-known tales like "King Laurin and the Alp-Glow" and "The Kingdom of the Fanes" in addition to lesser known stories such as "The Nightingale of the Sasslong", "Iron Hand" and "Merisana's Wedding". This book is a unique collection on your perspective of the Dolomites.

The Metaphysics of Race

This book seeks to reframe debates on the conflicting scientific and spiritual traditions that underpinned the Nazi worldview, showing how despite the multitude of tensions and rivals among its adherents, it provided a coherent conceptual grid and possessed its own philosophical consistency. Drawing on a large variety of works, the volume offers insights into the intellectual climate that allowed the radical ideology of National Socialism to take hold. It examines the emergence of nuanced conceptions of race in interwar Germany and the pursuit of a new ethical and existential fulcrum in biology. Accordingly, the volume calls for a re-examination of the place of genetics in Nazi racial though...
