Bekerja merupakan salah satu hak warga negara Indonesia yang diatur di dalam Undang-Undang Negara Republik Indonesia Tahun 1945. Negara memberikan jaminan kepada setiap warga negaranya untuk mendapatkan perlindungan serta kenyamanan dalam melakukan pekerjaannya. Perlindungan dalam bekerja sangat beragam, di antaranya tidak adanya tindakan diskriminasi, perlindungan keselamatan dan kesehatan pekerja, serta terpenuhinya hak-hak para pekerja. Tiap negara tentu memiliki aturan sendiri-sendiri terkait dengan jaminan keselamatan kerja dan kesehatan kerja bagi pekerja proyek konstruksi seperti di Indonesia dan Malaysia misalnya. Indonesia memiliki Undang-Undang Nomor 1 Tahun 1970 tentang Keselamatan Kerja, dan Malaysia memiliki Laws of Malaysia: Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 atau Undang-Undang Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja 1994 dan Factory and Machinery Act 1967 atau Undang-Undang Pabrik dan Mesin 1967.
