Eso no significa que debamos transformar a estas personas que son buenas, en seres crueles y destructivos – replicó su compañero. No transformó nada. Esas personas son así. Sólo intentan reprimir su verdadera esencia perversa, monstruos ocultos por capas de racionalidad, bestias sedientas de sangre y poder controlados por eso que llaman moralidad. La locura sólo le basta un pequeño impulso para desatarse. Pues no dejaré que conviertas los miedos de estas personas en realidad. Viejo. Son los miedos los que demuestran lo que somos realmente, la verdadera naturaleza humana –recalcó Bahamondes– aquella que dicta que cuando cae la noche, todos los gatos son negros.
Mexico City assumed its current character around the turn of the twentieth century, during the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz (1876-1911). In those years, wealthy Mexicans moved away from the Zócalo, the city's traditional center, to western suburbs where they sought to imitate European and American ways of life. At the same time, poorer Mexicans, many of whom were peasants, crowded into eastern suburbs that lacked such basic amenities as schools, potable water, and adequate sewerage. These slums looked and felt more like rural villages than city neighborhoods.
