A Walled Garden
'A Walled Garden' reproduces the complete set of watercolours that Ian Gardner made in collaboration with Ian Hamilton Finlay for the unpublished book, 'A Walled Garden: A History of the Spandau Garden in the Time of the Architect Albert Speer'. Finlay conceived the project after corresponding with the former Third Reich architect in the late 1970s, shortly after the publication of Clara and Richard Winston's English translation of, 'Spandau: The Secret Diaries' (1976), Speer's clandestine record of his twenty-year imprisonment in west Berlin's Spandau prison from 1946 to 1966.
Modern Scottish Women
This revelatory book concentrates on Scottish women painters and sculptors from 1885, when Fra Newbery became Director of the Glasgow School of Art, until 1965, the year of Anne Redpath's death. It explores the experience and context of the artists and their place in Scottish art history, in terms of training, professional opportunities and personal links within the Scottish art world. Celebrated painters including Joan Eardley, Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh and Phoebe Anna Traquair are examined alongside lesser-known figures such as Phyllis Bone, Dorothy Johnstone and Norah Neilson Gray, in order to look afresh at the achievements of Scottish women artists of the modern period.The book accompanies a show which will be held at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art Two in Edinburgh from 7 November 2015 to 26 June 2016.
An Orkney Tapestry

Mary Cameron: Life in Paint' explores the fascinating story of Cameron?s life and career, charting her creative journey from elegant family portraits to breathtaking Spanish scenes. Mary Cameron (1865-1921) was an artist and woman ahead of her time. Born in Edinburgh, she began her career as a portraitist and genre painter in her native city, before venturing abroad to study in Paris. Foreign travel proved to be an enduring source of inspiration. In 1900 she visited Madrid for the first time, and was captivated by the Spanish culture, people and scenery. Establishing studios in Madrid and Seville, she executed large-scale compositions of traditional peasant life, dramatic bullfights and rural landscapes. Cameron exhibited widely, and her talents were recognised by contemporaries such as John Lavery and Alexander Roche. However, like many female artists of her generation, her name is now little-known.
