This book is a compilation of some of the most remarkable contributions made by scientists currently working in Latin America to the understanding of virus biology, the pathogenesis of virus-related diseases, virus epidemiology, vaccine trials and antivirals development. In addition to recognizing the many fine virologists working in Latin America, Human Virology in Latin America also discusses both the state-of-the-art research and the current challenges that are being faced in the region, in hopes of inspiring young scientists worldwide to become eminent virologists.
Features, Transmission, Detection, and Case Studies in COVID-19 examines the effects of the virus on the body, as well as its transmission and clinical profile. This volume begins with an introduction to the virus and its pathogenesis, transmission, and avoidance, followed by sections on pulmonary and cardiovascular effects, obesity, diabetes, the liver, detection issues, and biomarkers. Vaccines and treatment are also discussed. Specific case studies covered include hypoxia, acute kidney injury, pneumonia, and neurological effects. This volume is relevant for all clinicians and scientists working to ensure the best outcomes for patients with COVID-19. - Discusses COVID-19 biology, including...
This book covers various aspects of Molecular Virology. The first chapter discusses HIV-1 reservoirs and latency and how these twin phenomena have remained a challenge to eradication. Aspects regarding the molecular evolution of hepatitis viruses including their genetic diversities with implications for vaccine development are treated in the second chapter. Metabolic disorders that are a consequence of hepatitis C virus infection are discussed in the succeeding chapter. The following two chapters discuss influenza C virus and the applications of viral vectors in therapeutic research. Avian influenza is handled in the sixth chapter and the therapeutic potential of belladonna-200 against japanese encephalitis virus infection is discussed in the succeeding chapter. The last two chapters discuss baculoviruses and their interaction with polydnaviruses. Researchers, lecturers and students will find this book an indispensable companion.
Combining elements of biochemistry, molecular biology, and immunology, artificial DNA can be employed in a number of scientific disciplines. Some of the varied applications include site-specific mutagenesis, hybridization, amplification, protein engineering, anti-sense technology, DNA vaccines, protein vaccines, recombinant antibodies, screening fo
The Scientific Basis of Monkeypox: Features, Prevention, and Treatments advances understanding of monkeypox and provides a framework for future research with evidence-based and forward-looking content. Content makes use of modeling systems and current experiences derived from case studies to provide material that is cross-disciplinary, bridging interdisciplinary divides. Furthermore, consideration is given to the behavioral response to monkeypox infection, including barriers to vaccination. Each chapter contains structured content, including policy and procedures, applications to new or emerging communicable diseases, a mini dictionary of terms, and summary points.Chapter contributions are f...
