Adelaide Victoria Arnold was a popular English novelist who between 1911 and 1928 published 10 works of supernatural fiction. Of these 10 works, 3 were set in the English Lake counties and touched upon a wide spectrum of challenging subjects - human trafficking of black slaves; the Liverpool-West Indies Slave Trade; shell-shock; gender imbalance in the aftermath of the First World War; a woman's all-consuming posthumous love for a soldier who died during the Battle of Somme in France that she is fated to take her own life in tragic circumstances; the sacred doctrine of karma.
