Quasilinear Elliptic Equations with Degenerations and Singularities
The series is devoted to the publication of high-level monographs which cover the whole spectrum of current nonlinear analysis and applications in various fields, such as optimization, control theory, systems theory, mechanics, engineering, and other sciences. One of its main objectives is to make available to the professional community expositions of results and foundations of methods that play an important role in both the theory and applications of nonlinear analysis. Contributions which are on the borderline of nonlinear analysis and related fields and which stimulate further research at the crossroads of these areas are particularly welcome. More Progresses In Analysis - Proceedings Of The 5th International Isaac Congress
International ISAAC (International Society for Analysis, its Applications and Computation) Congresses have been held every second year since 1997. The proceedings report on a regular basis on the progresses of the field in recent years, where the most active areas in analysis, its applications and computation are covered. Plenary lectures also highlight recent results. This volume concentrates mainly on partial differential equations, but also includes function spaces, operator theory, integral transforms and equations, potential theory, complex analysis and generalizations, stochastic analysis, inverse problems, homogenization, continuum mechanics, mathematical biology and medicine. With over 350 participants attending the congress, the book comprises 140 papers from 211 authors.The volume also serves for transferring personal information about the ISAAC and its members. This volume includes citations for O Besov, V Burenkov and R P Gilbert on the occasion of their anniversaries.

Characters and Authors in Luigi Pirandello
Luigi Pirandello is best known in the English-speaking world for his radical challenge to traditional Western theatre with plays such as Six Characters in Search of an Author. But theatre is just one manifestation of his experiments with language which led to a remarkable collection of novels,short stories, and essays as well as his work for a film industry then in its infancy. This study, which is based on the view that Pirandello's writings are most fruitfully discussed in a European context, takes as its starting-point the author's belief in the primacy of the literary character in acreative process which is necessarily conflictual.The book argues that all Pirandello's characters are engaged in a continual performance which transcends the genre distinction between narrative and dramatic forms. In this performance it is the spoken word in which the characters invest most heavily as they struggle to sustain an identity of theirown, tell their life-stories, and assert themselves before their most prominent antagonist, the author himself.
Topological Approximation Methods for Evolutionary Problems of Nonlinear Hydrodynamics
The authors present functional analytical methods for solving a class of partial differential equations. The results have important applications to the numerical treatment of rheology (specific examples are the behaviour of blood or print colours) and to other applications in fluid mechanics. Experimental Fictions
This volume provides the first comprehensive comparative study of two major representatives of naturalism: Emile Zola and the Italian "verist" novelist, Giovanni Verga. The development of Verga's narrative, from the early romantic novels to his mature verist fiction, is to be understood in connection with French Naturalism, and Zola in particular. The author thus challenges the canonical interpretation of Verga's fiction (dominant among Italian critics) which sees it in antithetical opposition to Zola's.
