Not long after the conquest, the City of Mexico's rise to become the crown jewel in the Spanish empire was compromised by the lakes that surrounded it. Their increasing propensity to overflow destroyed wealth and alarmed urban elites, who responded with what would become the most transformative and protracted drainage project in the early modern America—the Desagüe de Huehuetoca. Hundreds of technicians, thousands of indigenous workers, and millions of pesos were marshaled to realize a complex system of canals, tunnels, dams, floodgates, and reservoirs. Vera S. Candiani's Dreaming of Dry Land weaves a narrative that describes what colonization was and looked like on the ground, and how it affected land, water, biota, humans, and the relationship among them, to explain the origins of our built and unbuilt landscapes. Connecting multiple historiographical traditions—history of science and technology, environmental history, social history, and Atlantic history—Candiani proposes that colonization was a class, not an ethnic or nation-based phenomenon, occurring simultaneously on both sides of an Atlantic, where state-building and empire-building were intertwined.

Pasado, presente y futuro de la ciencia en México
Esta obra representa el esfuerzo y trabajo de un grupo de profesores del Centro Universitario de Tonalá (CUT), quienes, a través de la Academia de Historia del entonces Departamento de Ciencias Sociales del CUT, organizaron en abril de 2016 el Primer Coloquio de Historia de la Ciencia en México. Este evento logró reunir a más de cuarenta investigadores nacionales con diversas formaciones académicas y un objetivo común: el estudio de la historia de la ciencia, que fue posible mediante la presentación de ponencias en las que se conjugó lo multidisciplinario y lo transdisciplinario. Acciones como éstas nos dan la oportunidad de vincular el trabajo de nuestros investigadores con sus pares, al tiempo que interactúan con los estudiantes. El fruto de esta labor finalmente es un testimonio sobre historia de la ciencia. Los trabajos que integran el presente libro son resultado de la selección realizada por el Comité Editorial del CUT, que se encargó de revisar acuciosamente las ponencias presentadas durante el coloquio y que, sin duda, materializan el interés que existe en el ámbito nacional en torno a este campo del conocimiento.

México y la economía atlántica (siglos XVIII-XX)
En las decadas recientes, el concepto de "historia atlantica" ha sido utilizado para definir una vertiente de la historiografia ligada inicialmente a la historia de la expansion colonial europea. Ello imprimio a los estudios de campo una delimitacion temporal que solia partir del siglo XV y concluir con la emancipacion colonial y la conformacion de los estados nacionales en America. Este libro constituye el resultado de un primer esfuerzo por extender el uso de esa categoria al analisis de la vinculacion entre dos paises, Mexico y Alemania, en un periodo posterior, el de la transformacion del mundo atlantico en la etapa poscolonial. Muchos problemas que repercuten tanto en la interaccion de ambos paises como en su conexion con este espacio atlantico y sus procesos economicos se vinculan con este periodo. El proposito central de este ejercicio ha sido para sus autores superar las perspectivas nacionales mas estrechas que predominaban en la historiografia economica de ambas naciones y encuadrar las relaciones entre esos dos paises dentro de un marco mas apropiado.
