Unyielding tackles a recurring topic of national importance as a history lesson for future generations. Controversial illegal medical mandates impacted military populations for many decades, but it was not until the COVID-era that the American people witnessed similar overreach. Colonel Tom “Buzz” Rempfer’s memoir retraces the anthrax vaccine history since it marked the first time the military was served with court rulings condemning premeditated illegal experimentation on our nation’s troops. The advent of COVID mandates, imposed on the population in 2021, gave the American people a taste of the mistreatment previously reserved for our nation’s warriors. Legal protections enacted ...
Replication is a topic of interest in the distributed computing, distributed systems, and database communities. Although these communities have traditionally looked at replication from different viewpoints and with different goals (e.g., performance versus fault tolerance), recent developments have led to a convergence of these different goals. The objective of this state-of-the-art survey is not to speculate about the future of replication, but rather to understand the present, to make an assessment of approximately 30 years of research on replication, and to present a comprehensive view of the achievements made during this period of time. This book is the outcome of the seminar entitled A ...
Cullman County was established in 1877 in large part from the west side of Blount and the east side of Winston counties. Today, the few old cemeteries which existed in those counties in the early days are found within the borders of Cullman. The cemetery listings in this four volume set were conducted by the author beginning in 2003 and ending in early 2006. An attempt was made to personally visit every cemetery in Cullman County and record information from each readable monument. Volume 4 of this series covers alphabetically cemeteries M through Z, beginning with the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery and concluding with the Zion Grove Cemetery. The volumes are filled with photos of many of the old cemetery sites and notes describing the company and unit of most of the old Civil War era veterans. This set of books is vital to any serious student of Cullman County genealogy and history.
Announcements for the following year included in some vols.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Distributed Computing, DISC 2000, held in Toledo, Spain in October 2000. The 23 revised full papers presented together with one invited contribution were carefully reviewed and selected from more than 100 submissions. The papers address a variety of current issues in distributed computing including mutual exclusion, distributed algorithms, protocols, approximation algorithms, distributed cooperation, electronic commerce, self-stabilizing algorithms, lower bounds, networking, broadcasting, Internet services, interconnection networks, distributed objects, CORBA, etc.
Gain Critical Insight into the Parallel I/O Ecosystem Parallel I/O is an integral component of modern high performance computing (HPC), especially in storing and processing very large datasets to facilitate scientific discovery. Revealing the state of the art in this field, High Performance Parallel I/O draws on insights from leading practitioners, researchers, software architects, developers, and scientists who shed light on the parallel I/O ecosystem. The first part of the book explains how large-scale HPC facilities scope, configure, and operate systems, with an emphasis on choices of I/O hardware, middleware, and applications. The book then traverses up the I/O software stack. The second...
Distributed Systems Comprehensive textbook resource on distributed systems—integrates foundational topics with advanced topics of contemporary importance within the field Distributed Systems: Theory and Applications is organized around three layers of abstractions: networks, middleware tools, and application framework. It presents data consistency models suited for requirements of innovative distributed shared memory applications. The book also focuses on distributed processing of big data, representation of distributed knowledge and management of distributed intelligence via distributed agents. To aid in understanding how these concepts apply to real-world situations, the work presents a ...
"Entertaining, enlightening and disturbing." - Ira Glass The immersive, captivating untold story of the mass radicalization of the Republican Party in the aftermath of January 6, 2021, entrenching the political power of a radical right-wing movement dedicated to dismantling democracy itself. Inspired by Donald Trump’s election lies, a growing movement of grassroots activists mobilized around the country to pick up where the insurrection left off, laying the groundwork to succeed next time where Trump had failed to keep himself in power. But their own success in taking over and purging the Republican Party became their undoing as it drove away moderates and supplied the Democrats with a win...
