Philip Ziegler, born in Bern, Switzerland, came to the U.S. in 1746 and settled in Tulpehocken Township in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Regina Requel, his wife was a native of Wurttemberg, Germany. His descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, and other places in the U.S.

Jacob Bowman Sr. married (1) Anne ____?; (2) Freni/Vreni/Fronica ____?; (3) Catherine Wine Steel, born ca. 1730, the daughter of John George Wine & Margaretha Horn & widow of Christopher Steel. Catherine later married Christian Fry. Jacob & Ann or Anna arrived from Germany on the "Mortonhouse" Aug. 17, 1729. Jacob lived in Adams Co., Pa. until 1762 when he moved to Frederick Co., Md. He then moved to a section of Augusta Co., Va. (later known as Rockingham Co.) & owned a lot of land near Greenmount or Edom, Virginia. Jacob died ca. 1903.

Sinophone Southeast Asia
This volume explores the diverse linguistic landscape of Southeast Asia’s Chinese communities. Based on archival research and previously unpublished linguistic fieldwork, it unearths a wide variety of language histories, linguistic practices, and trajectories of words. The localized and often marginalized voices we bring to the spotlight are quickly disappearing in the wake of standardization and homogenization, yet they tell a story that is uniquely Southeast Asian in its rich hybridity.
