Umělec nesmí nikdy ztratit odvahu
Publikace odhaluje podrobnosti vztahů Bohuslava Martinů s jeho žákem a skladatelem Janem Novákem v letech 1947–1959 na pozadí dochované korespondence. Kniha přináší edici souboru dopisů Martinů Novákovi a dále korespondenci Jana Nováka o Martinů a naopak. Interpretace nově získaných pramenů odkrývá bohatou síť souvisejících faktů, událostí a kontaktů, které rekonstruují rámec dobové hudební kultury. Vymezují také roli Jana Nováka a jeho manželky Elišky v propagaci díla Martinů v 50. letech u nás v době, kdy čelil politicky angažované kritice. Monografie se též snaží poukázat na paralely v životě a tvorbě obou skladatelů, ať se jedná o emigraci, evropanství, humanismus nebo vztah k lidové hudbě a divadlu. Kniha, která vychází ke 100. výročí narození Jana Nováka, se snaží přispět k hlubšímu pochopení a docenění díla tohoto významného skladatele, který byl z důvodu emigrace odsouzen k povinné kolektivní amnézii.
