The House of Victor Horta
The story of how the Belgian Art Nouveau architect Victor Horta conceived his private residence/studio and how architect Barbara Van Der Wee restored it to its original splendour Victor Horta (1861-1947) is considered the most prominent Belgian architect of the Art Nouveau movement. His private house in Brussels, built in 1901, is a rare and stunning example of this style. In 1990, Barbara Van der Wee was given the challenging task of restoring the house--its original architectural concept being compromised over the years due to many renovations--and of transforming it into a house museum. In this book, she tells the story of her encounter with the house and the various ways in which she explored Horta's home as well as his work, thoughts, and dreams. Dictionary of French Family Names in North America
This dictionary contains data not only on the origins of French surnames in Québec and Acadia, a great many of which eventually spread to many parts of North America, but also on those which arrived in the United States directly from various French-speaking European and Caribbean countries. In addition to providing the etymology of the original surnames, it also lists the multifarious variants that have developed over the last four centuries. A unique feature of this work in comparison to other onomastics dictionaries is the inclusion of genealogical information on most of the Francophone migrants to this continent, something which has been rendered possible not only by the excellent record-keeping in French Canada since the very beginnings of the colony, but also through the explosion of such data on the internet in the last couple of decades. In sum, this dictionary serves the dual purpose of providing information on the meanings of French family names on the North American continent, as well as on the migrants who brought them there.
Systems Dependability Assessment
Petri Nets were defined for the study of discrete events systems and later extended for many purposes including dependability assessment. In our knowledge, no book deals specifically with the use of different type of PN to dependability. We propose in addition to bring a focus on the adequacy of Petri net types to the study of various problems related to dependability such as risk analysis and probabilistic assessment.
