Geo-information for Disaster Management
Geo-information technology can be of considerable use in disaster management, but with considerable challenge in integrating systems, interoperability and reliability. This book provides a broad overview of geo-information technology, software, systems needed, currently used and to be developed for disaster management. The text invites discussion on systems and requirements for use of geo-information under time and stress constraints and unfamiliar situations, environments and circumstances.
TOF Range-Imaging Cameras
Today the cost of solid-state two-dimensional imagers has dramatically dropped, introducing low cost systems on the market suitable for a variety of applications, including both industrial and consumer products. However, these systems can capture only a two-dimensional projection (2D), or intensity map, of the scene under observation, losing a variable of paramount importance, i.e., the arrival time of the impinging photons. Time-Of-Flight (TOF) Range-Imaging (TOF) is an emerging sensor technology able to deliver, at the same time, depth and intensity maps of the scene under observation. Featuring different sensor resolutions, RIM cameras serve a wide community with a lot of applications like monitoring, architecture, life sciences, robotics, etc. This book will bring together experts from the sensor and metrology side in order to collect the state-of-art researchers in these fields working with RIM cameras. All the aspects in the acquisition and processing chain will be addressed, from recent updates concerning the photo-detectors, to the analysis of the calibration techniques, giving also a perspective onto new applications domains.

Infatti, da un lato il fulcro dell’indagine è costituito dall’insieme di edifici e ruderi che testimoniano il susseguirsi di un elemento fortificato di origine altomedievale, forse bizantino, e di un complesso religioso che, a partire da un momento che si colloca tra fine dell’XI e l’inizio del XII secolo fino a oggi, è stato importante luogo di devozione per la comunità che si riuniva, e ancora si riunisce, intorno al culto dei Santi Giulitta e Quirico. Il Convegno ha affrontato il dibattito, tuttora vivace, che attiene al rapporto tra architettura vernacolare e rupestre e le comunità che continuano a riconoscersi in stili di vita rivolti a quella tradizione. Il volume testimonia il raffronto tra esperienze e discipline diverse – dall’antropologia alla geomatica, dalla teoria e filosofia del restauro all’archeologia, dalla tecnica delle costruzioni, fino al monitoraggio satellitare dei siti e alle azioni di manutenzione programmata e di gestione. L’architettura vernacolare testimonia, attraverso le sue abilità costruttive, le conoscenze tradizionali delle comunità locali, il migliore uso dei materiali disponibili, le capacità e la creatività di utilizzo dei materiali locali, a volte estremamente semplici e poveri, ma posti in opera con profonda competenza. Sono evidenziate le pratiche innovative di conservazione e di salvaguardia, e l’urgenza di completarne il censimento territoriale.
