A Primer on Corporate Governance
Spain has a civil law-based legal system, and court decisions are not a source of law but are of interpretative value. The privatization of large state-owned firms, liberalization, integration with the European Union, and the launch of the euro have all contributed to the transformation of Spain’s financial system into a modern market. This book covers the main features of the Spanish model of corporate governance and will help you understand the characteristics of a civil law and a bank-oriented financial system in which banks play an active role relative to markets. For example, the bank orientation within Spain is built so that the corporate governance system relies heavily on the internal mechanisms of governance. Spain also bypasses the standard procedures of controlling shareholders mitigating conflicts between management and minority shareholders; instead, Spain allows controlling shareholders to mitigate the conflict between controlling shareholders and minority shareholders. Each chapter provides an inside look at the functioning of both internal and external mechanisms of corporate control.

International Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
With growing international business, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been faced with increased competition, but also with enhanced opportunities. Edith Olejnik addresses four major issues within the context of SMEs’ internationalization process: First, she identifies the three different internationalization patterns that SMEs take and analyzes how these patterns develop over time. Second, she looks at dynamic changes of foreign operation modes and the managerial reasons for these changes. Third, she derives an empirical classification of smaller family firms and profiles them using a comprehensive set of organizational variables. Fourth, she investigates the relationship between firm-level processes and dynamic capabilities in driving the international performance of SMEs. Based on theoretical considerations and empirical analyses this work provides important implications for research and management practice.
Selected Papers from Coastlab18 Conference
This book presents 16 selected papers from the 7th International Conference on The Application of Physical Modelling in Coastal and Port Engineering and Science, Coastlab18. The conference was organized in Santander, Spain, from 22 to 26 May, 2018, by the Instituto de Hidráulica Ambiental de la Universidad de Cantabria, IHCantabria. Coastlab18 welcomed 175 attendees from 18 different countries. The technical program included three renowned keynote lectures and 120 presentations focused on theoretical and practical aspects related to physical modelling in the field of coastal and ocean engineering. Coastal and ocean structures, breakwaters, revetments, laboratory technologies, measurement systems, coastal field measurement and monitoring, combined physical and numerical modelling, physical modelling case studies, tsunamis, and coastal hydrodynamics were the main topics covered in the conference. This book attempts to cover, as completely as possible, all the topics presented during the conference. The papers were accepted after a peer-review process based on their full text.
