"Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on Multisensor Data and Information Processing for Rapid and Robust Situation and Threat Assessment, Albena, Bulgaria, 16-27 May 2005"--T.p. verso.
This text reviews the fundamental theory and latest methods for including contextual information in fusion process design and implementation. Chapters are contributed by the foremost international experts, spanning numerous developments and applications. The book highlights high- and low-level information fusion problems, performance evaluation under highly demanding conditions, and design principles. A particular focus is placed on approaches that integrate research from different communities, emphasizing the benefit of combining different techniques to overcome the limitations of a single perspective. Features: introduces the terminology and core elements in information fusion and context; presents key themes for context-enhanced information fusion; discusses design issues in developing context-aware fusion systems; provides mathematical grounds for modeling the contextual influences in representative fusion problems; describes the fusion of hard and soft data; reviews a diverse range of applications.
Researchers in areas such as artificial intelligence, formal and computational linguistics, biomedical informatics, conceptual modeling, knowledge engineering and information retrieval have come to realize that a solid foundation for their research calls for serious work in ontology, understood as a general theory of the types of entities and relations that make up their respective domains of inquiry. In all these areas, attention is now being focused on the content of information rather than on just the formats and languages used to represent information. The clearest example of this development is provided by the many initiatives growing up around the project of the Semantic Web. And, as t...
Ambient Intelligence lies at the confluence of several trends: the continued decrease in cost and size of computing technology; the increasing availability of networking and communication infrastructure; the growing public familiarity/comfort with computing artifacts; and practical advances in artificial intelligence. These developments make it possible to contemplate the ubiquitous deployment of intelligent systems - prototypically in smart homes, but more broadly in public spaces, private automobiles and on individual appliances and hand-held devices - in applications ranging from entertainment through eldercare, to safety critical device control. Ambient Intelligence is a young field. As ...
This volume covers practical and effective implementation techniques, including recurrent methods, Boltzmann machines, constructive learning with methods for the reduction of complexity in neural network systems, modular systems, associative memory, neural network design based on the concept of the Inductive Logic Unit, and a comprehensive treatment of implementations in the area of data classification. Numerous examples enhance the text. Practitioners, researchers, and students in engineering and computer science will find Implementation Techniques a comprehensive and powerful reference. - Recurrent methods - Boltzmann machines - Constructive learning with methods for the reduction of complexity in neural network systems - Modular systems - Associative memory - Neural network design based on the concept of the Inductive Logic Unit - Data classification - Integrated neuron model systems that function as programmable rational approximators
Homeland security and context In the Geographical Dimensions of Terrorism (GDOT) (Cutter et al. 2003), the first book after 9/11 to address homeland security and geography, we developed several thematic research agendas and explored intersections between geographic research and the importance of context, both geographical and political, in relationship to the concepts of terrorism and security. It is good to see that a great deal of new thought and research continues to flow from that initial research agenda, as illustrated by many of the papers of this new book, entitled Geospatial Technologies and Homeland Security: Research Frontiers and Future Challenges. Context is relevant not only to understanding homeland security issues broadly, but also to the conduct of research on geospatial technologies. It is impossible to understand the implications of a homeland security strategy, let alone hope to make predictions, conduct meaningful modeling and research, or assess the value and dangers of geospatial technologies, without consideration of overarching political, social, economic, and geographic contexts within which these questions are posed.
This book provide a comprehensive set of modeling methods for data and uncertainty analysis, taking readers beyond mainstream methods and focusing on techniques with a broad range of real-world applications. The book will be useful as a textbook for graduate students, or as a training manual in the fields of calibration and testing. The work may also serve as a reference for metrologists, mathematicians, statisticians, software engineers, chemists, and other practitioners with a general interest in measurement science.
Although cybersecurity is something of a latecomer on the computer science and engineering scene, there are now inclinations to consider cybersecurity a meta-discipline. Unlike traditional information and communication systems, the priority goal of the cybersecurity of cyber-physical systems is the provision of stable and reliable operation for the critical infrastructures of all fundamental societal functions and activities. This book, Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructure Protection via Reflection of Industrial Control Systems, presents the 28 papers delivered at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) hosted in Baku, Azerbaijan, and held online from 27-29 October 2021. The inspirati...
