Volume 9 of this series continues in the tradition of its highly acclaimed predecessors, containing current knowledge and results in ion exchange. Presenting theoretical and applied information, this comprehensive reference provides authoritative, interdisciplinary coverage of contemporary topics such as kinetics and dynamics of the interaction of organic ions with various ion-exchange resins ... the application of ion-exchange techniques to the resolution of a spectrum of technical problems ... the influence of humic and fulvic acids on the composition of natural waters ... water sorption properties of ion exchangers ... and much more! The Ion Exchange and Solvent Extraction Series treats ion exchange and solvent extraction both as discrete topics and as a unified, multidisciplinary study -- presenting new insights for researchers in many chemical and related fields. The volumes in this now-classic series must be owned by biophysicists; biochemists; membrane researchers; radiochemists; electrochemists; analytical, physical, coordination, and environmentalists; and chemical engineers. Progress in Boron Chemistry, Volume 2 presents the chemistry and applications of boron and its compounds. This book provides a critical treatment of six areas of boron chemistry, including polyhedral borane ions, carboranes, polymers, hydrogen, metal borides, and elemental boron. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the structures as well as the synthesis of polyhedral borane anions. This text then examines the various types of classes and series of the carboranes. Other chapters consider the relatively intramolecular rearrangements and intramolecular exchange reactions concerning the various closo-carboranes and nido-carboranes. This book discusses as well the formation and the historical significance of a higher boron hydride polymer. The final chapter deals with the structural utilization of boron filaments, which promises to be the first large-scale use for comparatively high purity elemental boron. This book is intended to be suitable for boron chemists, chemical engineers, scientists, and research workers.
Macromolecular Microsymposia–XII and XIII provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of polymers and polymer solutions. This book discusses the structures in polymer solutions and the transformations of functional groups in polymers. Organized into two parts encompassing 15 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the method for the determination of the structure of block copolymers in concentrated solution and in the dry state. This text then examines the liquid crystalline mesophases of the cholesteric type where one requirement is the existence of chiral single molecules. Other chapters consider phospholipids and glycolipids, which are significant component of the structure of many cell membranes. This book discusses as well the organized structures of some synthetic macromolecules in gels and solutions. The final chapter deals with the technique for studying the effect of the excluded volume on the probability of cyclic chain conformations. This book is a valuable resource for chemists.

This exhaustive work in three volumes and over 1300 pages provides a thorough treatment of ultra-high temperature materials with melting points over 2500 °C. The first volume focuses on Carbon and Refractory Metals, whilst the second and third are dedicated solely to Refractory compounds and the third to Refractory Alloys and Composites respectively. Topics included are physical (crystallographic, thermodynamic, thermo physical, electrical, optical, physico-mechanical, nuclear) and chemical (solid-state diffusion, interaction with chemical elements and compounds, interaction with gases, vapours and aqueous solutions) properties of the individual physico-chemical phases of carbon (graphite/g...
A comprehensive review of the literature was made to assist in providing background information needed for future work concerning boride materials. The materials reviewed included solid bodies of TiB2, ZrB/2, HfB2, VB2, NbB2, TaB2, CrB2, and ThB4. Information is presented on synthesis, properties, and applications of the selected boride compounds, including selected abstracts and articles. This documentary search, by showing many gaps and wide scatter where information is available, demonstrates the need for the development of authoritative scientific information on borides applicable to future technological requirements.
