Irregularities of Partitions

The problem of uniform distribution of sequences initiated by Hardy, Little wood and Weyl in the 1910's has now become an important part of number theory. This is also true, in relation to combinatorics, of what is called Ramsey theory, a theory of about the same age going back to Schur. Both concern the distribution of sequences of elements in certain collection of subsets. But it was not known until quite recently that the two are closely interweaving bear ing fruits for both. At the same time other fields of mathematics, such as ergodic theory, geometry, information theory, algorithm theory etc. have also joined in. (See the survey articles: V. T. Since his death in 1996, many scientific meetings have been dedicated to the memory of Paul Erdös. From July 4 to 11, 1999, the conference "Paul Erdös and his Mathematics" was held in Budapest, with the ambitious goal of showing the whole range of Erdös' work - a difficult task in view of Erdös' versatility and his broad scope of interest in mathematics. According to this goal, the topics of lectures, given by the leading specialists of the subjects, included number theory, combinatorics, analysis, set theory, probability, geometry and areas connecting them, like ergodic theory. The conference has contributed to changing the common view that Erdös worked only in combinatorics and combinatorial number theory. In the present two volumes, the editors have collected, besides some personal reminiscences by Paul's old friends, mainly survey articles on his work, and on areas he initiated or worked in.

Research, Policymaking, and Innovation

This book presents an update on teacher and education development research, policymaking and innovation within the Belt and Road Countries. It illustrates cases from 18 Belt and Road countries: Albania, Cambodia, China, Hungary, India, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mongolia, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan and Turkey. It identifies regularities and patterns of teacher development in the context of education development, and explores the characteristics of education policy and practice of the Belt and Road countries. It will be of interest to all researchers, educators and policymakers involved in teacher development and/or education development.
