Biological control, the management of pests by the use of living organisms, has a long history of application to agriculture around the world. However, the effective use of beneficial organisms is constrained by environmental, legal, and economic restrictions, forcing researchers to adopt increasingly multi-disciplinary techniques in order to deploy successful biological control programs. It is this complex process, including the mindset and the social environment of the researcher as well as the science being pursued, that this book seeks to capture. Chapters reveal the experiences of scientists from the initial search for suitable control agents, to their release into ecosystems and finally to the beneficial outcomes which demonstrate the great success of biological control across diverse agro-ecosystems. Drawing together historical perspectives and approaches used in the development of biological control as well as outlining current debates surrounding terminology and differential techniques, Biological Control: A Global Perspective will be a valuable resource.

Legume Root Diseases

Legume crop development is a major challenge worldwide for sustainable agriculture and food security. In particular, legume root diseases are economically important, affecting large areas of crop production in many countries worldwide. Root rots, caused by Aphanomyces euteiches, Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium species, and wilts, caused by several formae speciales of Fusarium oxysporum, are some of the most destructive soil-borne diseases of cultivated legumes including pea, chickpea, lentil, soybean, bean, faba bean, lupin, and alfalfa.

Management of Fusarium Species and Their Mycotoxins in Cereal Food and Feed

Health and safety of food and feed are the most important criteria for their quality. The quality of feed is in turn important for animal health, the environment and for the safety of food from animal origin. Fungi belonging to the Fusarium genus are widespread in crops causing plant diseases and producing toxic metabolites. Fusarium species can colonize plants during their growth on the field and cause serious damage in terms of yield and quality of harvested grains. One of the most important fungal diseases of wheat and other cereals in the world is Fusariumhead blight caused by the fungal pathogens Fusarium graminearum and Fusarium culmorumand others. In addition, these fungi produce myco...

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has become an effective tool with significant implications for industrialisation and Market Research (MR), especially in the field of green production. Green IIoT (GRIIoT) can be used to implement Green Production (GP) goals for the environment. The purpose of this study is to examine the drivers behind the adoption of GIIoT, MR, and industrialization decision-making, as well as the effects these drivers have on industrialization performance (IP). A structured questionnaire was used to gather information in order to evaluate the suggested study paradigm. The results indicate that institutional isomorphism influences the acceptance of GRIIoT in a favorable way. Furthermore, Green innovation (GI) activities that result in IP are favorably correlated with GIIoT. The potential effects of the various institutional isomorphisms discussed in this study can aid organizations in better understanding the responsibilities to protect and satisfying stakeholders, particularly as the adopt GIIoT to handle production problems and possible accordance pressures in the process.

Canada is a world leader in biological control research. Reporting the status of biocontrol agents released in Canada over the last decade, this book presents case studies by target pest that evaluate the impact of biocontrol and recommend future priorities. In addition to a new chapter on future targets and an appendix listing established agents, this edition contains information of interest to a global audience, and chapters that address effects of invasive species and climate change.
