"The question of how much freedom the press should enjoy has been debated throughout American history. In 1942 an impartial commission was formed to study mass communication, evaluate the performance of the media, and make recommendations for possible regulation of the press. This book is the general report of that commission."--Book cover.
This is a philosophical work that develops a general theory of ontological objects and object-relations. It does this by examining concepts as acquired dispositions, and then focuses on perhaps the most important of these: the concept of learning. This concept is important because everything that we know and do in the world is predicated on a prior act of learning. A concept can have many meanings and can be used in a number of different ways, and this creates difficulty when considering the nature of objects and the relationships between them. Over the past two decades Iran's irregular warfare capabilities have expanded dramatically with a network of highly capable proxy actors emerging and consolidating. This network, developed by the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps was expertly directed by its mysterious and charismatic leader Major-General Qasem Soleimani. Aside from becoming a key actor in Middle Eastern politics, highlighted by the tensions brought about by his targeted assassination by US strike in Iraq in January 2020, Soleimani had, more recently, been turned into a brand and a key tool of power by Tehran. This book explores the ways the image of the General has been painted and constructed to appeal to different audiences which serve multiple purposes for the regime. Using an original analytical framework to examine these 'nested frames', we explore the consolidation of legitimacy and authority.
