The Gaunt family is said to descend from John of Gaunt who was Prince of England. Joshua Gaunt (b. 1790) married Ann Hinchliffe and they were the parents of nine children. Some of their children immigrated to America and settled in Illinois. They married into the Foster, Brooks and Bateman families. Their descendants live in Illinois, California and other parts of the United States.
