The Georgia Black Book

By: George Cabell Greer, Orig. Pub. 1912, Reprinted 2018, 376 pages, Index, ISBN #0-89308-814-5. A useful companion to Nugent's Cavaliers and Pioneers, this work provides an exhaustive list of immigrants to Virginia, 1623-1666, who were not original patentees of land. As the records stand it is very difficult to discover names of persons who came to Virginia unless they were pantentees of land, and the great majority of immigrants to the colony were not Patentees but "Headrights." Nearly 25,000 names have been collected from the original records in the Virginia State Land Office and arranged in alphabetical order. Every immigrant from 1623 down to 1666 is noted long with the name of the patentee or party sponsoring him and the date and place or residence.
