Decision Science: A Human-Oriented Perspective

  • Type: Book

  • Publisher: Springer

This book offers a new perspective on human decision-making by comparing the established methods in decision science with innovative modelling at the level of neurons and neural interactions. The book presents a new generation of computer models, which can predict with astonishing accuracy individual economic choices when people make them by quick intuition rather than by effort. A vision for a new kind of social science is outlined, whereby neural models of emotion and cognition capture the dynamics of socioeconomic systems and virtual social networks. The exposition is approachable by experts as well as by advanced students. The author is an Associate Professor of Decision Science with a doctorate in Computational Neuroscience, and a former software consultant to banks in the City of London.

The two volume set, LNCS 10613 and 10614, constitutes the proceedings of then 26th International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks, ICANN 2017, held in Alghero, Italy, in September 2017. The 128 full papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 270 submissions. They were organized in topical sections named: From Perception to Action; From Neurons to Networks; Brain Imaging; Recurrent Neural Networks; Neuromorphic Hardware; Brain Topology and Dynamics; Neural Networks Meet Natural and Environmental Sciences; Convolutional Neural Networks; Games and Strategy; Representation and Classification; Clustering; Learning from Data Streams and Time Series; Image Processing and Medical Applications; Advances in Machine Learning. There are 63 short paper abstracts that are included in the back matter of the volume.

Computing Anticipatory Systems

This proceedings volume contains foundation of anticipation in any system and applications in all the areas of science: economy, biology, cognition, physics, robotics, etc. Strong anticipatory systems deal with systems which behave in taking into account past, present and computed future states. The new mathematical and computational tools of incursion and hyperincursion are developed in this way. In weak anticipatory systems, the future states are predicted from models of these systems. The domain of computing anticipatory systems is becoming a new frontier of science.

This book aims to be a comprehensive and accurate survey of state-of-art research on intuitionistic fuzzy sets theory and could be considered a continuation and extension of the author ́s previous book on Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets, published by Springer in 1999 (Atanassov, Krassimir T., Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets, Studies in Fuzziness and soft computing, ISBN 978-3-7908-1228-2, 1999). Since the aforementioned book has appeared, the research activity of the author within the area of intuitionistic fuzzy sets has been expanding into many directions. The results of the author ́s most recent work covering the past 12 years as well as the newest general ideas and open problems in this field have been therefore collected in this new book.

Entrepreneurship and the Market Economy

This innovative book proposes a new way of analysing the market process, focusing on market-making entrepreneurs. Synthesising key insights from mainstream economics, modern entrepreneurship theory and network theory, Mark Casson examines how market segmentation driven by location and culture generates opportunities for profit for entrepreneurs.

Bath and West Bath

Founded as one town, Bath and West Bath have gone their separate ways since 1844. While the western part of town remained agricultural, the eastern part - stretched along the Kennebec River - became active in shipbuilding and maritime trade. After their separation, eastern Bath went on to become a thriving city, while the farms of West Bath eventually mingled with summer camps and cottages.
