Georges Chevrot fut, pendant près de trente ans, curé d'une des grosses paroisses du diocèse de Paris, Saint-François-Xavier. Il fut un grand prédicateur dont les recueils de sermons ont fait l'objet de nombreuses éditions. Partisan résolu de l'insertion des prêtres en monde ouvrier dans les années 1940-1950, il s'est efforcé de présenter du catholicisme un visage ouvert et dynamique.
