Newest Challenges and Advances in the Treatment of Colorectal Disorders; From Predictive Biomarkers to Minimally Invasive Techniques

Colorectal disorders have come to the forefront of modern endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery due to the significant incidence rates and effects on patient quality of life (QoL). Heralded by the rising diagnosis rates of early-onset colorectal cancer, surgical techniques on resection, lymph node harvesting, and bowel anastomosis have been rapidly advancing, in parallel to more minimally invasive approaches such as stenting, tattooing and endoscopic resection. While the role of the colorectal specialist surgeon is central in treating benign and malignant colorectal disease, we must further study the role of novel biomarkers, tumor genomics and proteomics, as well as the use of less invasive methods with regards to the prognosis and outcomes of such patients.

This book is a comprehensive and richly-illustrated guide to cardiac CT, its current state, applications, and future directions. While the first edition of this text focused on what was then a novel instrument looking for application, this edition comes at a time where a wealth of guideline-driven, robust, and beneficial clinical applications have evolved that are enabled by an enormous and ever growing field of technology. Accordingly, the focus of the text has shifted from a technology-centric to a more patient-centric appraisal. While the specifications and capabilities of the CT system itself remain front and center as the basis for diagnostic success, much of the benefit derived from ca...

Modern sonography makes possible the detection of small and subtle changes in the normal echo pattern. These may represent significant pathological changes which can not al ways be fully revealed by the echo pattern alone. There is, therefore, an increasing need for the supplement of the ultra sonically guided percutaneous puncture, which can be per formed with great accuracy and with virtually no risk. Also, ultrasonically guided puncture has proven invaluable for a wide variety of therapeutic purposes. The first percutaneous puncture guided by ultrasonic scanning using a specifically designed transducer was per formed in 1969 at the ultrasonic laboratory in Gentofte, now Herlev, Hospital, ...

This book follows a context-based approach to management of early-onset scoliosis (EOS) in countries with limited resources in education, finance, and research. Due to the great variety in etiology, onset age, progression rate, and severity associated with EOS, it calls for a unique treatment plan. This book enumerates the optimal provision of surgical and non-surgical services, from education/training of local surgeons, to effective teamwork, to implementing an effective data collection system; helping the surgeon to gain a hands-on experience. It also illustrates the successful execution of deformity correction using real life experiences from countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Key Features Discusses biomedical principles that will help to get universally standard implants that are credible and affordable for countries with limited resources. Specific surgical Guidelines and the ability to develop evidence-based practice for this service would be an interesting read for surgeons working in global organizations as well as to local surgeons.
