12 Preludes and Fugues Volume 1
A master in the art of counterpoint, Borden initially derived the musical material of each of the preludes and fugues in this collection from the letters of the name of the person to whom it is dedicated. Using the Pythagorean numerology alphabet, the remaining letters in the name were matched to a number, and then these numbers were assigned to the pitches of a mode that best “fit” the name. Once a suitable mode was found, and each letter assigned its pitch, the rhythmic shape of the fugue subject was determined.
NEA Literature Fellowships
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Literature Fellowship Program has helped new writers find their voices and established authors continue their work. Some of the early grants went to writers whose work is now a permanent part of America¿s literary legacy, such as Gwendolyn Brooks, Isaac Bashevis Singer, John Berryman, Denise Levertov, Robert Penn Warren, and Eudora Welty. The NEA Fellowships have also recognized many writers before their talents were acknowledged by a wider audience, such as Alice Walker, Tobias Wolff, and Maxine Hong Kingston. Huskerville
This work reveals the storied love affair that has long existed between native Nebraskans and the University of Nebraska football team. The author draws upon his experiences as a devoted "Huskerviller," and the insights of more than 500 other Husker fans who shared their ideas through interviews, questionnaires, and Internet communication, to compose a story that highlights how the culture, history, and geography of Nebraska are intimately embedded in fans' devotion to the Cornhuskers. The book features photographs and an extensive bibliography, while an appendix provides 16 essays written by devoted Husker fans.
