From the 19-29 May 1991 the NATO ASI Course PAsthma Treatment: A P Multidisciplinary Approach was held in Erice, on the rocky North West Coast of Sicily, facing the ancient Phoenician shore of the African Continent. Sixty NATO sponsored participants arriving from many different European Countries - Nato members and non - attended the course. Qualified researchers from Europe and the United States held extensive lectures, short meetings and small informal group discussions. Erice is a magical place which draws together people from different backgrounds and cultures under her Mediterrean charm, recreating the ancient Greek openair discussion atmosphere. And so, during the 10 days gathering, th...
This volume, the Proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Advances in Prostaglandin, Leukotriene and Other Bioactive Lipid Research: Basic Science and Clinical Applications, held August 25-29, 2002, in Istanbul, Turkey, discusses advances in bioactive lipid research with special attention to cancer, cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal diseases and respiratory diseases. Specific topics covered include the role of leukotrienes and lipoxins in inflammation, the cytochrome P450 pathway, the genetics and genomics of bioactive lipids, lipid peroxidation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, isoprostanes, receptors and inhibitors, cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways and inhibitors, prostaglandin synthases and receptor signaling, phospholipases and inhibitors.
Proceedings of a NATO ASI held in Erice, Italy, April 27-May 1, 1995.
This volume presents the work of distinguished investigators who have conducted major studies on the role of eicosanoids in inflammation. The book provides an informative appraisal of the current state of the art in leukotriene and inflammation research, integrating new basic science concepts and clinical findings. The primary focus of the book is on the evidence that leukotrienes represent a group of mediators that contribute significantly to the pathobiology of asthma and play a role in other inflammatory disorders. The information presented in this volume is of vital importance to pharmacologists, biochemists, and physiologists, as well as to clinicians treating patients with asthma and other inflammatory diseases.
