From the bleary-eyed celebrity drunk apprehended behind the wheel of his car to the mass-murderer's chilling stare, this title presents 350 mugshots which tell an alternative history of the 20th century - a mosaic of the faces and the stories of those who have ended up on the wrong side of the law.
Fiction. Translated from the Italian by Jamie Richards. Translated into English for the first time, JELLYFISH (original title: "Meduse") is an experimental novel that takes the reader to the farthest reaches of alienation and despair. Upon its appearance in 2003, major critics in Italy hailed it as a classic. "An original work, a scream, that emerges as the testimony of a resentful, mournful reflection of the self and the world. [JELLYFISH]'s language brings to light sensations and states of being that could never be reached through mere reflection"--Antonio Debenedetti. "A text that boasts an entirely uncommon literary power and stylistic rigor. Its point of departure is not the trivial; rather, its inventiveness draws upon a range of readings from the classical to the modern, from voyages to the great beyond to Beckett's continuous speech, even to Kafka's 'The Burrow.'"--Cesare Barboli.
Providing the most complete record possible of texts by Italian writers active after 1900, this annotated bibliography covers over 4,800 distinct editions of writings by some 1,700 Italian authors. Many entries are accompanied by useful notes that provide information on the authors, works, translators, and the reception of the translations. This book includes the works of Pirandello, Calvino, Eco, and more recently, Andrea Camilleri and Valerio Manfredi. Together with Robin Healey's Italian Literature before 1900 in English Translation, also published by University of Toronto Press in 2011, this volume makes comprehensive information on translations from Italian accessible for schools, libraries, and those interested in comparative literature.
This yearbook presents information on the dates, people, events, and world affairs of 2007. The section entitled "Britannica World Data," updated annually, presents geographic, demographic, and economic details.

This book is both a sequel to author John Taylor's earlier volume Into the Heart of European Poetry and something different. It is a sequel because this volume expands upon the base of the previous book to include many more European poets. It is different in that it is framed by stories in which the author juxtaposes his personal experiences involving European poetry or European poets as he travels through different countries where the poets have lived or worked. Taylor explores poetry from the Czech Republic, Denmark, Lithuania, Albania, Romania, Turkey, and Portugal, all of which were missing in the previous gathering, analyzes heady verse written in Galician, and presents an important poe...

Those Who from Afar Look Like Flies is an anthology of poems and essays that aims to provide an organic profile of the evolution of Italian poetry after World War II. Beginning with the birth of Officina and Il Verri, and culminating with the crisis of the mid-seventies, this tome features works by such poets as Pasolini, Pagliarani, Rosselli, Sanguineti and Zanzotto, as well as such forerunners as Villa and Cacciatore. Each section of this anthology, organized chronologically, is preceded by an introductory note and documents every stylistic or substantial change in the poetics of a group or individual. For each poet, critic, and translator a short biography and bibliography is also provided.
