Computational Biology and Machine Learning for Metabolic Engineering and Synthetic Biology

This volume provides protocols for computational, statistical, and machine learning methods that are mainly applied to the study of metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, and disease applications. These techniques support the latest progress in cross-disciplinary research that integrates the different scales of biological complexity. The topics covered in this book are geared toward researchers with a background in engineering, computational analytical, and modeling experience and cover a broad range of topics in computational and machine learning approaches. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Comprehensive and practical, Computational Biology and Machine Learning for Metabolic Engineering and Synthetic Biology is a valuable resource for any researcher or scientist who wants to learn more about the latest computational methods and how they are applied toward the understanding and prediction of complex biology.

Application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to Accelerators

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine learning (ML) promise significant enhancements for particle accelerator operations, including applications in diagnostics, controls, and modeling. Challenges still exist in experimentally verifying AI/ML methods before deployment at user facilities. The ability to quickly generalize and adapt these methods to new operating configurations at the same facility or between facilities also remains a challenge and requires combining model-independent adaptive feedback with traditional ML tools. These methods also apply to the detection, classification, and prevention of operational anomalies that can cause accelerator damage or excessive beam loss in the case of abnormal operations. Opportunity exists in broadening AI/ML methods for early detection of a broad range of accelerator component or subsystem failures.

Complete works of Rafael Sabatini

Creator of the legendary Captain Blood, Rafael Sabatini is one of the most outstanding authors of historical adventure stories. An Italian-English author, he was called the “Alexander Dumas of modern fiction.” Sabatini was born in Italy but spent much of his youth in England and other European countries. He first achieved fame as a journalist before becoming one of the greatest adventure novelists in the history of world literature. It took Sabatini almost 20 years after publishing his first novel to gain notoriety. Success finally arrived in 1921 with the publication of Scaramouche, a novel about the French Revolution. Soon the author’s pen shifted to tales of the sea – scribbling a...

The 15th century Italian Cardinal, respected military figure and alleged illegitimate son of a Catholic Pope, Cesare Borgia, wasn't just the inspiration of the famous book 'The Prince' by Niccolò Machiavelli, he is also the subject of the play "The Tyrant" by Rafael Sabatini. Straddling the line between two extreme views, the historical view of the villainous acts of a monster that Cesare is often portrayed in history as, and the more realistic view of a brilliant man erroneously slandered, as Sabatini held, a matter he seeks to show through a singular episode in his life. As the preface states, "In other words, I would show Cesare Borgia moving through a set of circumstances that should reveal his daring, his resource, his splendour, his athletic physical beauty, his personal magnetism, his intellectual acuteness, his ruthlessness, his merciless ambition, his typical fifteenth-century cruelty and his remorseless egotism, whilst at the same time in nothing suggesting that he could not in a different set of circumstances have perpetrated any or all of the villainies with which the popular conception charges him..."
