Maimon's Essay on a New Logic Or Theory of Thinking
The Essay on a New Logic or Theory of Thinking, originally published in Berlin in 1794, was Salomon Maimon's hard-won success after a lifetime's pursuit of philosophical wisdom, Timothy Franz presents its first English translation. Franz translates the entirety of the New Logic, Maimon's Letters to Aenesidemus, two hostile reviews he vigorously annotated, and his letters to Kant, Reinhold, and Fichte about the work. Franz prefaces the text with a new history of Maimon's unique philosophical development, an introduction that discusses Maimon's relation to Kant, and a commentary that reconciles Maimon's idiosyncratically disjointed style with his unified vision of a systematic philosophy of reflection. This makes Maimon's work available for further study.
Thinking, Knowing, Acting: Epistemology and Ethics in Plato and Ancient Platonism
The volume Thinking, Knowing, Acting: Epistemology and Ethics in Plato and Ancient Platonism aims to offer a fresh perspective on the correlation between epistemology and ethics, a topic of central importance in the Platonic tradition which has not yet received the attention it deserves. The first part deals with the social, juridical premises of Plato’s philosophy, with particular regard to the relation between science and practical reason. The second part investigates the reception and development of these problems in Aristotle and the Platonic tradition. Other papers, on Solon and Galen, show that the conflict between knowledge and political action was also a central topic for the other Greek thinkers and contribute by contrast to a better evaluation of the originality of Platonism.
Leo Strauss, Philosopher

Pubblicità, educazione e diritto in Kant
A partire dalla convinzione che il tema della pubblicità sia centrale nella riflessione kantiana quale parte del più ampio rapporto tra politica e morale, il volume intende delineare limiti soggettivi e oggettivi del controllo pubblico del potere, che deve essere strutturalmente garantito dal punto di vista giuridico e che cittadini/sudditi sono chiamati ad esercitare. Ma il discorso sulla pubblicità in prospettiva kantiana è avvicinato anche al tema dell’educazione e all’uso pubblico della ragione che il singolo individuo, applicando il ‘metodo illuministico’, deve avere il coraggio di praticare. La dimensione individuale e quella collettiva/istituzionale vengono allora saldamente legate per rispondere alla domanda: è possibile, secondo Kant, un’educazione alla pubblicità?
