Social psychology is the science that studies individual beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours in settings where other people are present (or merely implied or imagined -- which makes the definition pretty broad). Notice the focus is quite different from sociology, where groups of people are studied, but closer to psychology, where individuals are studied. The focus of social psychology is the individual within the group. As such, it is an ideal venue for studying those forces that change humans -- their beliefs, their attitudes, and their behaviours.
Moving beyond the traditional, and unproductive, rivalry between the fields of motivation and cognition, this book integrates the two domains to shed new light on the control of goal-directed action. Renowned social and motivational psychologists present concise formulations of the latest research programs which are effectively mapping the territory, providing new findings, and suggesting innovative strategies for future research. Ideally structured for classroom use, this book will effectively familiarize readers with important theories in the psychology of action.
Scientists and students of the Universities in Isfahan and Hamburg are in an intensive dialogue on the social and cultural challenges as well as on education- and curriculum-related issues in putting the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) into effective practice in both cities. The project intends to strengthen three areas of dialogue: (1) the international scientific dialogue between the two universities on concepts such as disability, rehabilitation, inclusion, accessibility or universal design; (2) municipal dialogues between each university and the specific local organizations and institutions working for the disabled; (3) the institutional dialogue for putting the UNCRPD into practice in the respective university context in Isfahan and Hamburg and on the further development of the curricula and of teaching formats. The book presents first results of the project and thematically relevant contributions of research groups in Iran, Germany and other countries.
This book offers in-depth information on pathological hoarding, describing both the root of the disorder and its progression. How can hoarding disorder be diagnosed? What are the challenges involved in treatment? How can professionals best deal with those affected? In this practical guide, health professionals will find the answers to these and many other questions. In the last few years the awareness of this disorder has gradually increased – not only in the academic community, but also in the media – and it has become clear that there are a considerable number of people worldwide who continue to suffer from it. The case studies presented here share essential insights into the diverse backgrounds and lives of affected individuals. In addition, hoarding disorder has since been classified as a new mental disorder by the WHO, which means many psychoanalysts, psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers will need to be trained accordingly. This book offers valuable guidance.
