Su estilo literario es propio de la historia panegírica configurando un discurso salpicado de héroes arquetípicos de un orden teleológico cristiano en lucha contra las fuerzas del mal. En este libro se analiza la narratividad del discurso historiográfico de Oviedo así como su imposibilidad de despojarse de la práctica retórica del mito clásico en la elaboración de una historia nueva e imperecedera sobre las Indias.
