The work endeavours to assess the impact of EU funded research on both, social science policy research and the policy making process at national level. Attempts, in the past, to include the social sciences in the decision making process have raised questions about the validity of scientific knowledge, in terms of its objectivity, and in terms of its legitimizing element. The starting point of this investigation, therefore, is the relationship between research and policy making. Subsequently, it considers the development of social science research in the field of immigration. At EU level it analyses the changes in the dynamics of migration and how the EU research Framework Programmes have res...
Today we hear more and more often about data protection: but what does it mean? The “protection” concerns natural persons and therefore, their data. The book takes us on a journey through the legislation on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data provided for by the eu Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR), helping us to understand its historical evolution, the ethical and legal principles that guide it and the obligations related to the processing. We should not overlook the issue of information security, also given the most current methods of communication and the development of new tools that offer us connection possibilities through smartphones, e-mail a...
Dr. Faustus is a great Elizabethan tragedy by Christopher Marlow originally published in 1600. The story is based on an earlier anonymous classic German legend involving worldly ambition, black magic and surrender to the devil. It remains one of the most famous plays of the English Renaissance. Dr. John Faustus, a brilliant, well-respected German doctor grows dissatisfied with the limits of human knowledge - logic, medicine, law, and religion, and decides that he has learned all that can be learned by conventional means. What is left for him, he thinks, but magic. His friends instruct him in the black arts, and he begins his new career as a magician by summoning up Mephastophilis, a devil. D...
This electronic version has been made available under a Creative Commons (BY-NC-ND) open access license. This is the first ever full book on the subject of male witches addressing incidents of witch-hunting in both Britain and Europe. Uses feminist categories of gender analysis to critique the feminist agenda that mars many studies. Advances a more bal. Critiques historians’ assumptions about witch-hunting, challenging the marginalisation of male witches by feminist and other historians. Shows that large numbers of men were accused of witchcraft in their own right, in some regions, more men were accused than women. It uses feminist categories of gender analysis to challenge recent arguments and current orthodoxies providing a more balanced and complex view of witch-hunting and ideas about witches in their gendered forms than has hitherto been available.
Winner of the George Orwell Award. One of The Atlantic's best books of the year. As human beings, we've always told stories: stories about who we are, where we come from, and where we're going. Now imagine that one of those stories is taking over the others, narrowing our diversity and creating a monoculture. Because of the rise of the economic story, six areas of your world - your work, your relationships with others and the environment, your community, your physical and spiritual health, your education, and your creativity - are changing, or have already changed, in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. And because how you think shapes how you act, the monoculture isn't just changing your mind - ...

The pandemic caused by Covid-19 represents the piece of an articulated puzzle that had been tracing itself for several years. The virus and its effects in fact provide the perfect fit to the dynamics already underway, accelerating movements of political and civic masses that would otherwise have been more gradual and tortuous. And this is how the virus offers itself to us as a lens through which to observe changes in paradigms and at the same time trace the continuity of national strategies. Some countries, which tend to be hegemonic, will not change their attitude for long. This was demonstrated by the most intense phases of the crisis which saw some states move according to what could be c...
