Ambient Air Pollution and Health Impact in China

  • Type: Book

  • Publisher: Springer

This book focuses on the health impacts of air pollution in China, especially the epidemiology-based exposure-response functions for the mortality, morbidity, and hospital admissions for respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, lung cancer, and mental health related to pollution. It also provides the latest estimates of the magnitude of the adverse effects of air pollution on the health of the Chinese population. By providing a better understanding of the impact of air pollution on health, it improves the scientific basis of risk assessment, and also helps governments develop policies and other health protection initiatives to reduce the impacts of air pollution. The book offers environmental scientists, engineers, researchers and students a comprehensive and organized body of information in the area of air pollution.

  • Publisher: Springer

This book focuses on summarizing the effects of greenspace exposures on human health in China. It also discusses the new methodologies assessing greenspace exposure and new methods exploring potential mechanisms underlying them. In particular, it takes into account trends in the types of studies and measurement of variables over time, as well as sources of geographical heterogeneity given uneven development across the China’s vast terrain. This book aims at providing researchers, health professionals, and policy makers a cutting-edge and comprehensive summary of researches on greenness and human health.

Deciphering the interaction mechanism between copper and polysulfides for enhanced performance and cost-efficiency in quasi-sodium-sulfur batteries

Room-temperature Na-S batteries with Al current collectors face the long-standing challenges of poor cycling performance and rate capability due to the serious sodium polysulfides (NaPSs) shuttling and sluggish reaction kinetics. Here, we demonstrate that a high-performance and low-cost quasi-Na-S battery can be realized by using the Cu@carbon nanotube (CNT) cathode host and unconventional Cu current collector (Cu-CC) in an ether electrolyte. Detailed ex-situ characterizations reveal that the Cu@CNT/S was transformed to NaPSs anchoring on Cu7S4 nanocrystals (~11 nm) during the cycling, forming the NaPS@Cu7S4/CNT cathode with robust sulfur immobilization and enhanced Na+ reaction kinetics. Proceedings of the 2022 3rd International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Education (IC-ICAIE 2022)

This is an open access book. The 2022 3rd International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Education(ICAIE 2022) will be held in Chengdu, China during June 24-26, 2022. The meeting focused on the new trends in the development of "artificial intelligence" and "education" under the new situation, and jointly discussed how to empower and promote the high-quality development of "artificial intelligence" and "education". An ideal platform to share views and experiences with industry experts. The conference invites experts and scholars in the field to conduct wonderful exchanges based on their own research results based on the development of the times. The themes are around artificial intelligence technology and applications; intelligent and knowledge-based systems; information-based education; intelligent learning; advanced information theory and neural network technology ; software computing and algorithms; intelligent algorithms and computing and many other topics.

Animals and Religion

What do animals—other than human animals—have to do with religion? How do our religious ideas about animals affect the lives of real animals in the world? How can we deepen our understanding of both animals and religion by considering them together? Animals and Religion explores how animals have crucially shaped how we understand ourselves, the other living beings around us, and our relationships with them. Through incisive analyses of religious examples from around the world, the original contributions to this volume demonstrate how animals have played key roles in every known religious tradition, whether as sacred beings, symbols, objects of concern, fellow creatures, or religious teac...

The Decline and Rise of Democracy

The Decline and Rise of Democracy

"Historical accounts of democracy's rise tend to focus on ancient Greece and pre-Renaissance Europe. The Decline and Rise of Democracy draws from global evidence to show that the story is much richer--democratic practices were present in many places, at many other times, from the Americas before European conquest, to ancient Mesopotamia, to precolonial Africa. Delving into the prevalence of early democracy throughout the world, David Stasavage makes the case that understanding how and where these democracies flourished--and when and why they declined--can provide crucial information not just about the history of governance, but also about the ways modern democracies work and where they could manifest in the future."--

Blood Pressure

Since the discovery of blood pressure by Stephen Hales in 1733, scientific interest in blood pressure regulation, particularly in hypertensive population, has not lost its popularity. The importance of the interactive effects of blood pressure shifts in different clinical conditions is well understood. We know many contributing factors regulate the pressure of the blood within the arteries. However, crucial blood pressure control and the exact mechanisms involved are still under debate. The present book aims to cover blood pressure from its measurement to various factors of its control with valuable contributions from different authors, in the light of contemporary data, from bench to bed.
