In Dialectics of the Ideal: Evald Ilyenkov and Creative Soviet Marxism Levant and Oittinen provide a window into the subterranean tradition of ‘creative’ Soviet Marxism, which developed on the margins of the Soviet academe and remains largely outside the orbit of contemporary theory in the West. With his ‘activity approach’, E.V. Ilyenkov, its principal figure in the post-Stalin period, makes a substantial contribution toward an anti-reductionist Marxist theory of the subject, which should be of interest to contemporary theorists who seek to avoid economic and cultural reductionism as well as the malaise of postmodern relativism. This volume features Levant’s translation of Ilyenkov’s Dialectics of the Ideal (2009), which remained unpublished until thirty years after the author’s tragic suicide in 1979. Confronting Hitler
The stories of the individual men and women who led German Social Democracy's failed efforts to fend off the Nazi onslaught in 1933 have largely been lost in the wake of the cataclysmic war, the Holocaust, and the division of Europe that followed Hitler's victory. Confronting Hitler recovers their stories and places them at center stage. In a series of biographical essays focusing on the experiences of ten leading Social Democratic activists, Smaldone examines their defeat in 1933 from the perspective of individuals enmeshed in political struggle. This study reveals what aspects of these activists' lives were most important in shaping their political outlook during the republic's final crisis and it illustrates the key factors that guided their actions in the effort to keep the republic alive. In addition, the biographies raise the important issue of the degree to which the defeat of German Social Democracy in 1933 is comparable to the experiences of other democratic socialist movements in the twentieth century.

So vertreten die Autorinnen die Auffassung, daß das spezifische Erfahrungswissen von Frauen berücksichtigt werden muß, wenn die Entwicklung in menschen- und sozialverträglichere Bahnen gelenkt werden soll.

Die Luria-Gesellschaft e.V. führt ihren Namen in memoriam Alexander Romanowitsch LURIA (Lurija), 1902-1977, der mit Lev S. VYGOTSKIJ und Alexej N. LEONT'EV die kulturhistorische Psychologie und die Tätigkeitstheorie begründete. Die Luria-Gesellschaft verfolgt den Zweck, das wissenschaftliche Erbe dieser Theorien zu sichern und inhaltlich weiterzuentwickeln. Die zentrale Aufgabe dieser Konzeption besteht in der Überwindung einer dualistischen, funktionalistischen und reduktionistischen Auffassung des Menschen und seines Bewusstseins.
