A obra coletiva “Discricionariedade na área assistência” é a quinta de uma coletânea que possui outros quatro títulos: “Discricionariedade na Área Policial”, “Discricionariedade na área da saúde”, “Discricionariedade na área educacional” e “Discricionariedade na área fiscalizatória”. Nesta oportunidade, os artigos foram desenvolvidos pelos alunos da disciplina “Limitações constitucionais às escolhas públicas”, por mim ministrada no ano de 2023, no Mestrado Acadêmico do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Direito Constitucional (PPGDC) da Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF). Na disciplina, cada mestrando foi instado a escolher e explorar um tema que abordasse a discricionariedade de assistentes sociais ou de algum agente que tivessem alguma relação com a assistência social, devendo necessariamente discutir as subjetividades ou autonomias presentes nas escolhas a serem feitas por parte dos agentes públicos com competência na área assistencial. Com tal pesquisa, busca-se continuar contribuindo com o aprofundamento de temas afetos ao que se denomina, corriqueiramente, de discricionariedade administrativa.

Microbes in Agri-Forestry Biotechnology
This book explores recent advances on the use of microbes for agri-forestry biotechnological applications. It provides technical concepts and discussions on the use of microorganisms for processes such as bioprocessing, bioremediation, soil enhancement, aquaponics advances, and plant-host symbiosis. The book provides an overview of the microbial approach to the tools and processes used in agriculture and forestry that make or modify products, improve plants for specific uses, and make use of livestock in agricultural systems. The authors discuss the main process conditions that enhance agri-forestry applications with the use of microbes and introduce the use of genetically modified (GM) microbes in agrobiotechnology. Finally, the authors explore the main technological advances in the production of secondary metabolites with potential applications in agri-forestry. This book is intended for biotechnologists, biologists, bioengineers, biochemists, microbiologists, food technologists, enzymologists, and related researchers.

The Things of Others: Ethnographies, Histories, and Other Artefacts deals with the things mainly, but not only, mobilized by anthropologists in order to produce knowledge about the African American, the Afro-Brazilian and the Afro-Cuban during the 1930s. However, the book's goal is not to dig up evidence of the creation of an epistemology of knowledge and its transnational connections. The research on which this book is based suggests that the artefacts created in fieldwork, offices, libraries, laboratories, museums, and other places and experiences – beyond the important fact that these places and situations involved actors other than the anthropologists themselves – have been different things during their troubled existence. The book seeks to make these differences apparent, highlighting rather than concealing the relationships between partial modes of making and being ‘Afro’ as a subject of science. If the artefacts created in a variety of situations have been different things, we should ask what sort of things they were and how the actors involved in their creation sought to make them meaningful. The book foregrounds these discontinuous and ever-changing contours.

The main theme of this year's congress is 'Animal lives worth living'. This theme focuses on our responsibility for all animals kept or influenced by humans, to ensure that we can provide a life for them that takes into account all relevant aspects of animal welfare, aided by applied ethology as the key scientific discipline. This not only means avoiding and alleviating suffering but also promoting resilience and positive experiences.
