There is an increased focus on ensuring optimal use of the resources of the planet. However experience shows that legislation can hinder the use of the resources from waste. This report examines the unintended consequences that legislation, enforcement and other formal institutions can have on utilization of biowaste as a resource. The project consists of three main elements: 1) Desk research 2) Qualitative phone interviews with relevant actors in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. 3) Solution dialogues with authorities. The barriers to better utilisation of biowaste are diffuse, and the solutions complex. A mixture of changes in regulation, better cooperation and coordination between regulative bodies, and better guidance and information sharing between national- and municipal authorities and the business community would together reduce the barriers for utilisation of biowaste.
Contrastive Linguistics (CL), Translation Studies (TS) and Machine Translation (MT) have common grounds: They all work at the crossroad where two or more languages meet. Despite their inherent relatedness, methodological exchange between the three disciplines is rare. This special issue touches upon areas where the three fields converge. It results directly from a workshop at the 2011 German Association for Language Technology and Computational Linguistics (GSCL) conference in Hamburg where researchers from the three fields presented and discussed their interdisciplinary work. While the studies contained in this volume draw from a wide variety of objectives and methods, and various areas of overlaps between CL, TS and MT are addressed, the volume is by no means exhaustive with regard to this topic. Further cross-fertilisation is not only desirable, but almost mandatory in order to tackle future tasks and endeavours.}
This book presents the results of the GMLS II conference on «Implications of GM-Crop Cultivation at Large Spatial Scales», held in Bremen in March 2010. The meeting was a platform to discuss ecological, agricultural and economic implications of genetically modified organisms (GMO) and to present new developments in risk assessment and monitoring. Approaches in co-existence regulations and nature protection standards are presented as well as legal challenges and resolutions on national and on EU-level. The book collects 30 contributions written by specialists in science, administration and jurisprudence from Europe as well as Africa, Central America, and Russia.

Power without Glory demonstrates the use of Foucault's conception of power in organizational analysis. It does this in two ways: first by developing a method for studying power in organizations, namely genealogy; and secondly by conducting a case study according to the principles in this method. The purpose is to highlight some aspects of Foucault's conception of power, which has not been sufficiently explored in organizational analysis. Most studies using a Foucauldian framework have focused on the relations between power and surveillance in organizations. This book takes a different approach and claims that a sufficient understanding of power is only possible by exploring the links between...
This book studies the organization and effects of linkages between transnational corporations - mainly Danish - and local firms in developing countries. It is based on a number of case studies of linkage collaborations and a survey of about ninety Danish firms and their relations to partners in developing countries. The analyzed host countries are Ghana, India, Malaysia, South Africa, and Vietnam. The book is a contribution to the emerging literature on firm strategy in developing countries, offering new empirical evidence of the multi-faceted and complex nature of cross-border inter-firm linkages. It documents how even small firms in both developed and developing countries engage in - and can benefit from - cross-border linkages.
"Operating across international markets is a highly turbulent affair that imposes real challenges on corporate risk management capabilities. The multinational corporation is exposed to many diverse risks and exogenous influences beyond managerial control but also attain new strategic opportunities. The exposures range from price volatilities, changing macroeconomic conditions, and operational disruptions to technological innovations, competitive moves, and socio-political events. Strategic risk management can reduce the adverse effects from these exposures but may also furnish gains from new opportunities. This book relates to the need for effective strategic risk management practices that facilitate the ability to monitor essential exposures and respond appropriately to changing environmental conditions. The 1st World Conference and Technology Exhibition on Biomass for Energy and Industry, held in Sevilla in June 2000, brought together for the first time the traditional European Conference on Biomass for Energy and Industry and the Biomass Conference of the Americas, thus creating the largest and most outstanding event in the worldwide biomass sector. The conference elaborated innovative global strategies, projects and efficient practice rules for energy and the environment at a key stage in the industry's development. New concepts and projects were highlighted to increase the social and political awareness for a change in worldwide resource consumption and to promote economically, socially and environmentally sustainable development for the next millennium. In 2 volumes, the Proceedings include some 470 papers essential to an understanding of current thinking, practice, research and global developments in the biomass sector - a vital reference source for researchers, manufacturers, and policy makers involved or interested in the use of biomass for energy and industry.
