Atherosclerosis IV

The presence of monotypism in thick atherosclerotic lesions of black females with G-6-PD mosaicism first reported by the Benditts (1973) has been confirmed in two other laboratories. However, we believe that it is premature to conclude that the finding of monotypism necessarily indicates monoclonal origin of athero sclerotic lesions. We have suggested two alternative explanations for the obser vation of monotypism which we believe must be shown to be invalid before accept ing monoclonal origin as the only plausible way to account for the observed G-6-PD monotypism. One of these two alternatives relates to clonal heterogeneity of cell growth potential, i. e. , during the course of progressive...

Chemical Physics

Chemical physics and physical chemistry are closely related fields of study. Together they are distinguished from other disciplines by the incredible range of problems addressed by their practitioners. An effective physical chemist or chemical physicist is a "jack-of-all-trades", able to apply the principles and techniques of the field to everything from high-tech materials to biology. Just as the fields of chemistry and physics have expanded, so have chemical physics subject areas, which include polymers, materials, surfaces/interfaces, and biological macromolecules, along with the traditional small molecule and condensed phase systems. This book gathers research from around the world presenting important new developments.

This book explores the interrelation of facts and norms. How does law originate in the first place? What lies at the roots of this phenomenon? How is it preserved? And how does it come to an end? Questions like these led Georg Jellinek to speak of the “normative force of the factual” in the early 20th century, emphasizing the human tendency to infer rules from recurring events, and to perceive a certain practice not only as a fact but as a norm; a norm which not only allows us to distinguish regularity from irregularity, but at the same time, to treat deviances as transgressions. Today, Jellinek’s concept still provides astonishing insights on the dichotomy of “is” and “ought to ...

Arterial Lesions and Arteriosclerosis

This monograph summarizes the results of a fifteen-year vascular pathology research project sponsored by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The workers who have participated in this project are indebted to the Academy for financing extensive investigations and visits to institutes abroad, the aims of which were to solve certain problems by international cooperation. The results presented by the collective effort of research teams, each studying here have been achieved a particular problem, but working together to the same end. Mutual discussion of findings and a regular exchange of information between the research groups have contributed to the progress of the investigations. Regular pUblica...

Process Analytical Chemistry

This practice-oriented book introduces chemists, engineers and technicians to the strategies, techniques and efficiency of modern process analytical chemistry. The author targets in particular those professionals in SMEs who have to carry out process control tasks in a "solo-run".
