This monograph deals with the reconstruction of the Proto-Ainu language and the problems of its genetic affiliation.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on Language and Automata Theory and Applications, LATA 2009, held in Tarragona, Spain, in April 2009. The 58 revised full papers presented together with 3 invited lectures and two tutorials were carefully reviewed and selected from 121 submissions. The papers address all the various issues related to automata theory and formal languages.
When Murat Sertel asked us whether we would be interested in organizing a special issue of the Review of Economic Design on the formation of networks and groups, we were happy to accept because of the growing research on this important topic. We were also pleasantly surprised at the response to our request for submissions to the special issue, receiving a much larger number of sub missions than we had anticipated. In the end we were able to put together two special issues of insightful papers on this topic. Given the growing interest in this topic, we also decided (with encouragement from Murat) to combine the special issues in the form of a book for wider dissemination. However, once we had decided to edit the book, it was natural to move beyond the special issue to include at least some of the papers that have been influential in the literature on the formation of networks. These papers were published in other journals, and we are very grateful to the authors as well as the journals for permission to include these papers in the book.
The Hopi are the westernmost group of the Pueblo Indians of the southwestern U.S. They live on a high, dry plateau in northern Arizona, and have been a sedentary, agricultural people. This study establishes the stylistic parameters of song in a particular culture. Author List determines what is meant when a Hopi person states that two or more performances are those of the same song. To what extent can speech sounds, pitches, and durational values, or the forms of which they are the constituents, differ and the performances still be considered to be those of the same song? List transcribed and compared 8 recordings of performances of a particular kachina dance song and 11 recordings of performance of a particular lullaby, made from 1903 to 1984. Illus.
