Disparities in Mental Health

Disparities in Mental Health

Health inequity not only has tremendous economic burden, but also impairs the foundations of social justice in any society. The current state of scientific knowledge supports the existence of significant inequities and disparities between different social groups. A significant part of our understanding of the health inequities lies in the realm of physical diseases, though mental health’s nature makes it more vulnerable to disparities. Mental health issues are sensitive matters that require additional trust, cultural appropriateness, acceptance, and support from healthcare providers and healthcare systems. As a result, not only mental health patients are at risk of disparities that exist in physical diseases, but they also face other challenges such as social stigma, language barriers, and fear of treatment that could result in disparities. Considering all these, we need to understand where the inequities are in the realm of mental health and who is being affected the most. We also need to know the existing policies and their effectiveness and efficiency. And with all these, then, we could plan how to decrease mental health disparities and provide welfare to all.

Nanoscale electrochemistry has revolutionized electrochemical research and technologies and has impacted other fields, including nanotechnology and nanoscience, biology, and materials chemistry. This book examines well-established concepts and principles and provides an updated overview of the field and its applications. The first two chapters contain theoretical background, specifically, theories of electron transfer, transport, and double-layer processes at nanoscale electrochemical interfaces. The next chapters examine the electrochemical studies of nanomaterials and nanosystems, as well as the applications of nanoelectrochemical techniques. Each chapter can be read independently, providing readers with a compact, up-to-date review of th

This textbook covers the full spectrum of tuberculosis-related topics in a comprehensive yet easy-to-follow, readily accessible format. Filling a significant gap in tuberculosis literature, it addresses tuberculosis sensu latu, mirroring the content of the London Queen Mary University tuberculosis Diploma. Covering all aspects related to this condition, from prevention, diagnosis and treatment to public and global health, the book provides a broad overview of tuberculosis management. Further, it includes a wealth of case studies and exercises, making it an essential guide for all staff involved in tuberculosis management. Written by an international and interdisciplinary panel of experts, the book appeals to a broad readership including students, postdoctoral fellows, clinicians, researchers, and nurses, as well as public health officers working in tuberculosis control programs.

Boron And Gadolinium Neutron Capture Therapy For Cancer Treatment

Boron And Gadolinium Neutron Capture Therapy For Cancer Treatment

The book focuses on two concurrent experimental therapies in cancer treatment known as boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) and gadolinium neutron capture therapy (GdNCT) using a variety of boron- and gadolinium-based compounds. Some of the gadolinium compounds serve the dual purpose as being MRI contrast agents and GdNCT agents. The book describes why BNCT & GdNCT were not at the forefront of the clinical trials during the past seven to eight decades since the discovery of neutrons by John Chadwick in 1932 and how the latest development in the synthesis of target boron- and gadolinium-based drugs has turned the area into the hottest one worthy of further investigation with the new clinical trials in the USA and elsewhere.
