Perkembangan Kognitif Anak Usia Dini
Anak, khususnya di fase awal atau usia dini, perlu distimulus perkembangan kognitifnya agar ia mampu mengeksplorasi diri sendiri, orang lain, dan benda-benda yang ada di sekitarnya. Perkembangan kognitif dapat dibagi menjadi tiga konsep utama, yaitu konsep pengetahuan umum dan sains; konsep bilangan, lambang, dan huruf; serta konsep warna ukuran, bentuk, dan pola. Setelah pembelajaran dan pengembangan dilaksanakan, hal penting yang harus dilakukan pendidik adalah menilai atau mengevaluasi perkembangan dan hasil belajar anak. Hasil dari asesmen tersebut dapat dijadikan acuan keberhasilan dalam sebuah program pengembangan kognitif pada anak usia dini. MENGAPA PERBENDAHARAAN KATA ANAK PRASEKOLAH TIDAK MENINGKAT SETELAH MENONTON TELEVISI?
Buku ini merupakan hasil karya yang diambil dari tesis penulis hampir dua dekade lalu yang berjudul “Penguasaan Perbendaharaan Kata Anak Usia Taman Kanak-kanak ditinjau dari Inteligensi dan Aktivitas Menonton Televisi". Hasil penelitian di tesis ini masih relevan dengan kondisi saat ini, di mana penulis menemukan bahwa aktivitas menonton televisi tidak berkaitan dengan peningkatan perbendaharaan kata pada anak prasekolah. Hal ini salah satunya disebabkan pada saat menonton televisi, anak-anak prasekolah ini tidak didampingi orang tua atau orang dewasa di sekitar anak. Anak-anak prasekolah ini tidak memperoleh pengukuhan (reinforcement) dari orang tua atau orang dewasa di sekitarnya meskipun mereka memperoleh kata-kata baru saat mereka menonton televisi.
