What is Life?
The book of Erwin Schrdinger about life evokes a variety of basic questions concerning the understanding of life in terms of modern physics rather than biochemistry. Problems of organization and regulation of biological systems cannot be understood by revealing only the chemical processes of the living state. A group of reputable physicists ? among them the followers of Heisenberg and Frhlich ? and biologists came to this same conclusion through several workshops on this topic. This book contains their contributions, written from different viewpoints of theoretical physics and modern biology. Die Friedliche Revolution
Mit diesem Buch liegt erstmals eine ausführliche zeitgeschichtliche Darstellung des Prozesses der SED-Entmachtung und der Demokratisierung bis zur Märzwahl 1990 vor. Ergänzt wird der Text durch zahlreiche Diagramme, mit denen die Stimmen der Bevölkerung quantitativ erfasst und ausgewertet werden. Am Beispiel Sachsens, des Schrittmachers der Revolution, werden die Entwicklungen in Bezirken, Kreisen, Kommunen und Betrieben in Wechselwirkung mit der internationalen und nationalen Politik untersucht und die Haupttriebkräfte der Entwicklung beschrieben. Protestants in Communist East Germany
This is the story of how the Protestants in the GDR struggled to survive while striving to put their theology into practice and remaining true to their vision of what the role of the church should be - a 'church for others' as Dietrich Bonhoeffer put it. Having taken the reader from the foundation of the GDR, through the peaceful revolution, to the unification of Germany, the story ends with some reflections on the church's past as well as on the challenges it faces in present-day Europe.
