The Vignette as an Exercise in Perception

Learning Diversity
This Open-Access-book explores diversity in its ambivalence. On the one side, we love to describe diversity as a resource for personal, social, economic, and cultural growth. On the other side, categories of differences often lead to discrimination or serve as justifications for privileges. They can cause exclusion and, conversely, promote the self-constitution of discriminated subjects and groups.The book moves within this tension of exclusion and belonging. Case studies of young ethnicized people vividly depict the interwovenness of identity-building and diversity. Theoretically, the book examines the psychosocial and anthropological conditions for constructing the Other. Sharp divisions between We and the Other, between social and national groups, and between humans and nature have devastating, life-threatening consequences. Dichotomous split-offs divide people, nations and the whole world. So, how do we deal with diversity? The author does not provide simple recipes but engages in a phenomenology of diversity that does not press life and its manifestations into categories but keeps them in a limbo of attention by affirming and doubting differences.

Erwachsenenbildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung
Die Ausgabe 49 des Magazin erwachsenenbildung.at (Meb) bildet den Status quo des Nachhaltigkeitsdiskurses in der Erwachsenenbildung ab, beschreibt das konkrete, praktische Handeln und zeigt zukunftsweisende Ideen und Perspektiven. Die Beiträge beleuchten theoretisch verankerte Konzepte und Lösungsideen sowie praktische Umsetzungsbeispiele ebenso wie Blinde Flecken und unterschiedliche Dilemmata, die sich in diesem Kontext ergeben. Die Autor*innen machen deutlich, dass Bildungsprozesse allein die Nachhaltigkeitsziele nicht erreichen können. Ein solcher Zugang birgt die Gefahr, die Verantwortung für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung auf das Individuum zu übertragen, ohne die strukturellen Probleme und Zusammenhänge ausreichend zu berücksichtigen. Es bedarf daher einer kritischen Reflexion der bestehenden Systeme und Strukturen in Hinblick auf deren Beitrag zur Nachhaltigkeit, und es braucht alternative Ansätze, die über einen individualisierten Zugang hinaus emanzipatorische und kollektive Prozesse betonen und strukturelle Veränderungen anstoßen. Seit dem russischen Überfall auf die Ukraine ist Krieg in Europa wieder traurige Realität. POLIS Heft 4-2022 gibt Einblicke in die Vorgeschichte des russischen Angriffskriegs, setzt sich mit den ökologischen und sozialen Folgen in den kriegsführenden Staaten und in Deutschland auseinander, beleuchtet die Perspektiven der Europäischen Union angesichts der russischen Aggression, stellt die Frage, wie friedenspädagogische Angebote in der kriegerischen Gegenwart aussehen können und gibt Impulse, den Ukraine-Krieg im Politikunterricht an den Interessen und Bildungsbedarfen der Schüler*innen orientiert aufzugreifen.
Ist inklusive Schule möglich?
Inklusion ist zur zentralen pädagogischen Herausforderung geworden. Den hohen Erwartungen an einen inklusiven Umgang mit Behinderung, sprachlich-kultureller Diversität, Gender Diversity und sozialer Differenz stehen hartnäckige selektive Strukturen, eingefahrene Unterrichtspraktiken, politische Vorbehalte und teilweise auch Ängste entgegen. Die Grundfrage der generellen Umsetzbarkeit inklusiver Schule steht im Zentrum dieses Bandes.
