Specialized Molding Techniques

A surge of new molding technologies is transforming plastics processing and material forms to the highly efficient, integrated manufacturing that will set industry standards in the early years of this century. This book is a survey of these technologies, putting them into context and accentuating opportunities. The relations among these technologies are analyzed in terms of products, materials, processing, and geometry.

Specialized Injection Molding Techniques

Special Injection Molding Techniques covers several techniques used to create multicomponent products, hollow areas, and hard-soft combinations that cannot be produced with standard injection molding processes. It also includes information on the processing techniques of special materials, including foaming agents, bio-based materials, and thermosets. The book describes the most industrially relevant special injection molding techniques, with a detailed focus on understanding the basics of each technique and its main mechanisms, i.e., temperature, mold filling, bonding, residual stresses, and material behavior, also providing an explanation of process routes and their variants, and discussio...

Development of Predictive Tools for the Characterisation of Milling Behaviour of Pharmaceutical Powders / Entwicklung Von Methoden Zur Vorhersage Der Zerkleinerungseigenschaften Pharmazeutischer Pulver

This work examines the main influence factors on the breakage behaviour of pharmaceutical substances and other organic crystals. Particle surface characterisation is done via Atomic Force Microscopy, thus examining the transport properties of the powders. The breakage behaviour is characterised by single particle impact experiments. Mechanical properties are determined by indentation. The results show a clear correlation between the breakage behaviour -- expressed by the breakage probability and the breakage function -- and the hardness and fracture toughness of the material. This allows an estimate about the breakage behaviour of a substance from indentation experiments with far less material consumption than in conventional milling experiments.

Proceedings of 8th GACM Colloquium on Computational Mechanics

This conference book contains papers presented at the 8th GACM Colloquium on Computational Mechanics for Young Scientists from Academia and Industry. The conference was held from August 28th – 30th, 2019 in Kassel, hosted by the Institute of Mechanics and Dynamics of the department for civil and environmental engineering and by the chair of Engineering Mechanics / Continuum Mechanics of the department for mechanical engineering of the University of Kassel. The aim of the conference is, to bring together young scientits who are engaged in academic and industrial research on Computational Mechanics and Computer Methods in Applied Sciences. It provides a plattform to present and discuss recent results from research efforts and industrial applications. In more than 150 presentations, given by young scientists, current scientific developments and advances in engineering practice in this field are presented and discussed. The contributions of the young researchers are supplemented by a poster session and plenary talks from four senior scientists from academia and industry as well as from the GACM Best PhD Award winners 2017 and 2018.
