Most of the scholarship regarding the Dutch monk and architect Dom Hans van der Laan OSB (1904-1991) has been narrowly focused on his architectural theory and projects. The liturgical and theological dimensions have been virtually neglected, though they are vital for a proper understanding of his thought. Through a thorough reading of the original sources, including previously unexplored documents from various archives, this book takes an interdisciplinary approach to Van der Laan’s theory. It brings together the different aspects of his work by studying both the liturgical-theological and architectural elements. On this basis the book offers a synthesis of the way in which Van der Laan was able to link earthly matter to the divine Mystery.

Humanities

Beginning with volume 41 (1979), the University of Texas Press became the publisher of the Handbook of Latin American Studies, the most comprehensive annual bibliography in the field. Compiled by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress and annotated by a corps of more than 130 specialists in various disciplines, the Handbook alternates from year to year between social sciences and humanities. The Handbook annotates works on Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and the Guianas, Spanish South America, and Brazil, as well as materials covering Latin America as a whole. Most of the subsections are preceded by introductory essays that serve as biannual evaluations of the literature and research under way in specialized areas. The Handbook of Latin American Studies is the oldest continuing reference work in the field. Lawrence Boudon became the editor in 2000. The subject categories for Volume 58 are as follows: Electronic Resources for the Humanities Art History (including ethnohistory) Literature (including translations from the Spanish and Portuguese) Philosophy: Latin American Thought Music

High Tension

1995. Dr Tim Naylor, a young university scientist and his students, make an amazing discovery: a new material will now be able to replace plastic and metals in many high technology applications, including military ones ... Soon, the discovery is challenged by a team of Dutch scientists: the Euro Chemicals Company. Unfortunately, this event becomes so great that success is quickly caught up with manipulation and money interest. Tim suddenly realizes how much his discovery is worth. He must now make a decision about what to do, or not ... This story is full of imagination and creativity. Incredible discoveries, well built characters, a nice writing and the clever use of suspense make this text up. The content seems to be so true that the reader is immediately dragged into the whole story. A great book.
