From the summer of 1958, when she first met Le Corbusier in Cap Martin, until today, Heidi Weber has worked tirelessly to popularize his work. She was the first to have certain pieces of Le Corbusiera (TM)s furniture industrially manufactured, she published his graphic works, and she organized countless exhibitions devoted to him. She even had Le Corbusier himself design a building especially for her collection: the Heidi Weber Museum (La Maison de la (TM)Homme) in Zurich, which opened in 1967; it is the only museum in the world exclusively devoted to the great architecta (TM)s work as a visual artist. This volume documents these fifty years of activity with illustrations of more than one hundred of Le Corbusiera (TM)s works from Heidi Webera (TM)s collection, including paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures, tapestries, furniture, plans, and models. It not only tells the story of a woman of tireless commitment and vision; it offers a fascinating synthesis of Le Corbusiera (TM)s work as a visual artist in all its myriad facets.

Singapore and Malaysia

Over the years, the Englishes of Singapore and Malaysia have developed into varieties in their own right, ranging from the sub-varieties spoken by people with high levels of English-medium education and of higher socio-economic status. This text volume illustrates this from a range of examples of spoken and written Singapore and Malaysian English as well as advertising pamphlets, newspaper advertisements and literary texts. The introduction to the volume sketches the historical and ethnic background, the increase in the functions of English in the colonial and earlier post-colonial period and the divergent language policies which have led to a decline in the status and functions of English in Malyasia but an ever increasing emphasis on it in Singapore. Each text is accompanied by a set of notes which explain grammatical and lexical characteristics and give information about the background of the text.

Pavillon Le Corbusier Zurich

Situated on the shore of the Lake Zurich, Le Corbusier's exhibition pavilion is his last realized design. Based on his Modulor proportional system and designed at the scale of a single-family home, it demonstrates the potential of prefabricated elements to form a perfect space for art and design. Commissioned in 1960 by Heidi Weber, Zurich-based gallery owner and patron of Le Corbusier's visual art, this structure in steel and glass represents pivotal aspects of Le Corbusier's architectural philosophy, and also points to the future. Architects Silvio Schmed and Arthur Rüegg have carefully restored the Pavillon Le Corbusier to its original state, including the reconstruction of missing pieces of furniture and lighting fixtures. This book documents both their research and the restored building, featuring previously unpublished historic photographs and documents alongside newly commissioned images by Swiss photographer Georg Aerni.

The Structure and Status of Pidgins and Creoles

The Structure and Status of Pidgins and Creoles

Destined to become a landmark work, this book is devoted principally to a reassessment of the content, categories, boundaries, and basic assumptions of pidgin and creole studies. It includes revised and elaborated papers from meetings of the Society for Pidgin and Creole Linguistics in addition to commissioned papers from leading scholars in the field. As a group, the papers undertake this reassessment through a reevaluation of pidgin/creole terminology and contact language typology (Section One); a requestioning of process and evolution in pidginization, creolization, and other language contact phenomena (Section Two); a reinterpretation of the sources and genesis of grammatical aspects of Saramaccan and Atlantic creoles in general (Section Three); a reconsideration of the status of languages defying received definitions of pidgins and creoles (Section Four); and analyses of aspects of grammar that shed light on the issue of what a possible creole grammar is (Section Five).

In 1929, Eileen Gray designed Villa E 1027 for herself and her youthful partner Jean Badovici, but only lived there for three years. Today, the elegant house in Roquebrune-Cap-Mar- tin in southern France is an icon of modernism. In 1937, Le Corbusier discovered the place and the “Maison en Bord de Mer”. Inspired by the genius of the place and the light on the Côte d'Azur, he created a total of eight large-format wall paintings there in 1938 and 1939 onwards, some of which complement the building congenially, while others set counterpoints. In 1952, he built his Cabanon nearby and decorated it with murals as well. The book by the well-known architectural historian Tim Benton documents Le Corbusier's artwork at this special place, explores its controversies, and places it in his overall oeuvre. The fascinating photographs by Manuel Bougot capture the special atmosphere of the villa Le Corbusier's painting is lesser known but was formative for his lifelong preoccupation with polychromy After extensive renovation work until 2021, E 1027, as well as the Cabanon, is open to the public again

Modelling and use of SysML behaviour models for achieving dynamic use cases of technical products in different VR-systems

This thesis presents a method that aims at achieving generic behavioural descriptions for use in Virtual Reality (VR) that can also be reused to form dynamic use cases of a product in different VR-systems. The focus lies on reducing the overall preparation effort of VR-models and on achieving high reusability of already created models. The core components of the thesis consist of the use of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to develop generic behavioural model descriptions, their use in building different use cases of a product in one VR-system and their reuse in different VR-systems as well. The Systems Modeling Language (SysML) is used to describe the behavioural models, the modelling process is described systematically and is also summarised in the form of general-purpose guidelines for later use. Furthermore, a dedicated physics engine is integrated with these descriptions. Two VR prototypes are developed to demonstrate the effectivity and use of the presented method. Finally, one of the prototypes is put to empirical evaluation performed with the help of experts from academia as well as industry.
