Walter Horn: ensimmäinen jääkäri ja kylmän sodan Pohjola-aktivisti
Suomessa Saksan kansalaisena syntynyt Walter Horn (1893–1972) oli mukana perustamassa jääkäriliikettä. Kun hän osallistui vuonna 1915 jääkäripataljoonan ensimmäisiin taisteluihin rintamalla, keuhkotauti pakotti hänet rintamalta sairaalaan. Myöhemmin talvisodassa Horn toimi Helsingin komendanttina ja jatkosodassa ulkomailla sotilasasiamiehenä. Vaiherikkaan sotilasuran ohella Horn oli aktiivinen myös poliittisesti. Hän toimi kylmän sodan aikaan osana Pohjola-aktivisteja, jotka suunnittelivat pohjoismaista puolustusliittoa. Harva tietää, että liitosta puhuttiin suomalaisten keskuudessa jo 1950- ja 1960-luvuilla. Tämä teos käsittelee aihetta ainutlaatuisesti aktivistien omasta näkökulmasta. Walter Hornin elämä kietoutui mielenkiintoisesti yhteen Euroopan historian kiinnostavimpien käännekohtien kanssa. Prikaatikenraali Pentti Airio on käyttänyt teoksessaan aineistona muun muassa ministeri Tankmar Hornin arkistoa muun tutkimuksensa lisäksi. Pentti Airio on eläkkeelle jäänyt prikaatikenraali, joka on kirjoittanut useita sota-aiheisia tietokirjoja. Airio on koulutukseltaan sotatieteiden tohtori.
