Winterhalter, in Deutschland ein unkonventionelles, aber angesehenes Dasein. Während sich Roedersteins Frühwerk innerhalb der kunstakademischen Konventionen bewegte, öffnete sich die Malerin in ihrem reiferen Werk zunehmend anderen Strömungen, um in den 1920er-Jahren zu einer sachlich-nüchternen Bildsprache zu finden. Trotz ihrer einst internationalen Wertschätzung als Porträtistin und Malerin von Stillleben geriet Roederstein fast unmittelbar nach ihrem Tod 1937 in Vergessenheit.
