Broadband services, which depend on state-of-the-art technology, are expected to drive investment in broadband fibre optic networks. A fibre superhighway is confidently predicted within the next 10 years. This text explores the impact of emerging broadband services and technology on fibre systems design and deployment of the superhighway.
Over the last 50 years, neoclassical financial theory has been dominating our perception of what is happening in financial markets. It has spurred numerous valuable theories and concepts all based on the concept of Homo Economicus, the strictly rational economic man. However, humans do not always act in a strictly rational manner. For students and practitioners alike, our book aims at opening the door to another perspective on financial markets: a behavioral perspective based on a Homo Oeconomicus Humanus. This agent acts with limited rationality when making decisions. He/she uses heuristics and shortcuts and is prone to the influence of emotions. This sounds familiar in real life and can be transferred to what happens in financial markets, too.
Lists citations with abstracts for aerospace related reports obtained from world wide sources and announces documents that have recently been entered into the NASA Scientific and Technical Information Database.
This innovative book employs the social studies of finance approach which aims to enhance the dialogue between finance and sociology by addressing the blind spots of economic and financial theories. In so doing, it challenges the accusations made towards financial models in the aftermath of the last economic crisis and argues that they cannot be condemned indiscriminately. Their influence on markets and society is not straightforward, but determined by the many ways in which models are created and then used. Ekaterina Svetlova analyses the various patterns of the application of models in asset management, risk management and financial engineering to demonstrate that their power is far more fragile than widespread criticism would indicate.
'The most damaging half truth for savers is “performance matters more than expenses”. Read this book carefully and the financial services industry will have one fewer easy victim, but you will have a sound base for a lifetime of successful investment.' Martin White, Chair of UK Shareholders Association This is one of those great big books to buy and then tuck away for constant reference. David Stevenson, 'Adventurous Investor' in the Financial Times ‘Informative and easy to read, Glen Arnold has produced arguably the ...
Multi-media networks based on ATM LAN technology can provide integrated transmission of voice, data and visual information direct to the workstation. Such networks are of strategic importance to organisations which depend upon electronic transactions. The smooth operation of these networks is therefore of critical importance. The aim of this special theme is to investigate the state of corporate networks and provide a view of how emerging new technology will improve communications efficiency. Production of nanomaterials has been constantly evolving over the last few years for manifold applications in electronic, optical and biomedical fields. As a result, exposure towards nanoparticles in the workplace environment is increasing, while respective occupational exposure limits are lacking. The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft's Commission for the Investigation of Health Hazards of Chemical Compounds in the Work Area (MAK Commission) recognized the importance of a scientifically based approach to the risk assessment of nanoparticles at the workplace and in 2009 established the ad-hoc working group ?Nanoparticles'. Its task was to review the current database available for risk assessment for nanoparticles, to identify relevant endpoints of toxicological concern and to define open questions for future research. This report contains overviews on the important toxicological aspects of the nanoparticles and a summary and conclusions of the discussions that took place during the meetings of the ad hoc working group ?Nanoparticles'.
