"Living in the Gaze of God" offers an accessible exploration of the theme of ministerial accountability through the lens of one reflective tool – that of formal supervision of ministerial practice. Bold and far-reaching, the book addresses the key presenting issues around a need for a change of culture in the church as regards accountability for ministerial practice. It outlines a theological and practical model of 1-to-1 supervision, arguing that such an approach enables the development of greater attentiveness to God, the self and others and thus enhances accountability.

If ever a period of time felt ‘fractured’ it is now. Whichever way we turn, we witness the dismembering and fracturing of many previously taken for granted realities, with maps and borders – physical and metaphorical – being redrawn before our eyes. What place for the feminist practical theologian in such a climate? “In Fragments for Fractured Times”, one of the world’s leading feminist practical theologians, Nicola Slee, brings together 15 years of papers, articles, talks and sermons, many of them previously unpublished. Collected from diverse times, places, settings and occasions, Slee offers an introduction to each fragment, “holding it up to the light and examining its size, shape, texture and pattern”. Drawing on a wide and diverse range of her writing, Slee demonstrates the richness and variety of feminist practical theological writing. What feminist theology brings to the table of scholarly thinking and embodied practice is, she suggests, something creative, artful, prophetic as well as playful – a resource for Christian living and thinking in fractured times.

This book sets out a Christological framework for developing and delivering pastoral supervision. Pastoral supervision is a key consideration for any denomination, congregation or faith-based organisation, so this is a vital resource for well-being for clergy, chaplains and the wide array of pastoral workers. Three central Christological themes, the revealing, re-membering and restoring Jesus, provide the theological framework for good supervision practice. The book draws insights from three gospel passages––Luke 24:13–34, Luke 22:39–53 and John 21:1–14––for its Christological themes. The practical Christology for pastoral supervision is deepened and extended through three theologians: Martin Luther (reformed), Emil Brunner (neo-orthodox) and James McClendon (small B baptist). Professional supervision (coaching, mentoring and spiritual direction) is increasingly sought––even required––by many people in church and faith-based organisations. This book will, therefore, be an excellent resource to theologians interested in supervision, practical theology, and Christology.

Investigating the undocumented mysteries of the past is similar to analyzing the remains of an old campfire pit. Only black, charded ashes remain of what once was a blazing fire. The smoke from the old campfire has long since disappeared into the atmosphere. the cracking sounds of hot flames dancing through the burning longs have long since vanished into memories of the past. The author's quest for information on the early pioneers of Second Fork has taken him from the State Museum in Augusta Maine to the Civil War prison in Andersonville, Georgia, visiting historical societies, libraries, museums, battlefields, cemeteries and other points of historical significance in between. He has interv...

The last decade has seen a resurgence of the social action of the local church – responses to social need have included street pastors, cold weather shelters, debt advice centres and latterly food banks. The last decade has also seen a greater experimentation in forms of evangelism, most prominently in the fresh expressions movement. The intention has been to bring the Church into contact with people who would not otherwise cross its threshold. All these changes have led to new pastoral relationships being formed and a greater awareness of how social change affects real people’s lives. Just Mission draws upon the increased activism of local churches and links it to effective use of democratic processes to achieve justice for the people with whom they have a pastoral relationship. It seeks to explain in a straight forward and theologically-based way, how they can undertake that task based upon the pastoral work that arises from their social action and evangelism. Helen Cameron introduces the political and public theology that is currently being produced to local church leaders so they can see that theology has a genuine interest in the dilemmas they currently face.
